Bains: Rs 7 cr to be spent on development of schools

A meeting of the District Grievance Redressal Committee was held in the District Administrative Complex today. It was presided over by Punjab Minister for Education and Industrial Training Harjot Singh Bains.
Bains, who is the chairman of the committee, said the purpose of the meeting was to review the progress of development works in the district. Information about the progress of works in various departments was also obtained by Cabinet Minister Jimpa, Deputy Speaker Rouri and a group of MLAs present there.
Bains said that all the seven Assembly constituencies of the district were being given Rs 7 crore (Rs 1 crore per constituency) for the development of government schools. During the meeting, he obtained detailed information about various development works in the district and sought progress report from the officials concerned. He first obtained information about the flood protection work in the district and directed officials of the drainage department to complete the cleaning of choes soon.
The functioning of Education Department, Public Works Department, Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Mandi Board, Rural Development and Panchayat Department, Industries, Food and Supply Department as well as the police department was also reviewed. He said strict steps should be taken to improve the law and order in the district and called for action against drug smugglers to curb drug abuse.
Bains said that it was his priority to make the district a leader in the field of technical education, industrial training, higher education, language and school education.
