District Magistrate Ankurjeet Singh has issued strict orders prohibiting bathing in the Sutlej and Bist Doab Canal within the district limits. The decision has been taken under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, with immediate effect.

The ban has been enforced to prevent incidents of drowning, which often occur due to people venturing into deep water or being swept away by strong currents.

As per official notification, any individual found violating this ban and caught bathing at these locations may face legal action. The police have been instructed to register cases under relevant laws against violators.

Singh emphasised that the measure is purely aimed at ensuring public safety and avoiding loss of life due to negligence. He appealed to the public to cooperate with the administration and avoid visiting or entering the restricted water bodies.

The prohibition order will remain in force until August 23. The authorities will continue to monitor the situation closely and additional steps may be taken.
