Ban song '315 bore', book singers: Addl CS, DGP urged

Jalandhar activist Simranjeet Singh has written to the Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Homes, Affairs & Justice, the DGP and the Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, seeking the registration of an FIR against singers R Nait and Gurlez Akhtar and seeking a ban on their song '315 bore' on social all media platforms. The activist's complaint to officials today alleged that there was a "display of weapons" and glorification of a "dangerous gangster image" in the song.

The video of the song, which was released 2 weeks ago, has already amassed 3.8 million views on Youtube. The song "315 bore" named after a rifle, features a generous display of firearms and various characters brandishing them.

In his letter, the activist states, "The state government has already issued instructions that no singer or artiste should sing or promote display of weapons or gangster mentality."

The complaint further states, "The video of the song displays weapons and glorifies a dangerous gangster image. The video shows Punjabi model and self-proclaimed social worker Bhaana Sidhu acting with weapons, which could have a negative influence on the youth. Singer R Nait and Gurlez Akhtar has encouraged weapons in his song, which has violated the directions issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. While singing these lines, the singer has also made an unnecessary display of weapons and described violence as his virtue. Doing so is tantamount to encouraging the illegal use of weapons."

Concluding his complaint, the activist has sought the registration of an FIR against the singers, baning the song and taking of legal action against the director, producer and singers of the song.

Under fire from the Opposition on the issue, the state government had, in November 2022, initiated various measures against gun culture, including the imposition of ban on songs promoting gun culture and violence and the public display of firearms. The state government had also ordered a review of arm licences.
