Two unidentified assailants attacked and robbed two youth near the canal on the Shekhupur-Dandupur road near Kapurthala last night. The assailants opened fire, injuring one of the victims before fleeing with cash and a motorcycle. According to the family of the injured youth, Lovepreet, a resident of Bhawanipur, the incident occurred while he was returning home from Shekhupur along with his friend Karandeep. As they approached the canal near Dandupur, two men on a motorcycle approached them from behind and kicked their bike, causing both to fall to the ground. A scuffle ensued, during which one of the assailants allegedly fired a shot that struck Lovepreet in the leg. The attackers then made off with the victims’ motorcycle and an undisclosed amount of cash. Lovepreet sustained a gunshot wound in his leg and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. His condition is reported to be stable. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora confirmed the incident and stated that statements from both victims have been recorded. “A case has been registered, and investigations are underway. We are pursuing all leads, and the culprits will be apprehended soon,” he said.
