Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Vijay Sampla has accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators of misleading the public by claiming credit for grants that were sanctioned during his tenure as Member of Parliament from Hoshiarpur.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Sampla said that some AAP MLAs were recently seen distributing letters related to the allocation of funds that were actually approved in 2019 during his term as MP. He called it unfortunate that the AAP leaders were attempting to create a false impression that these grants were sanctioned by their party’s government in Punjab.
Sampla clarified that the grants being distributed were part of the final instalment from the Rs 25 crore fund allocated to him as an MP. The total amount sanctioned by him for various development works across different assembly segments of the Hoshiarpur parliamentary constituency was Rs 2.45 crore. He added that while these projects had been delayed due to administrative reasons, they were recently released or cleared by the central government following his follow-up.
He alleged that AAP legislators were misleading the public by presenting these grants as funds brought by the Punjab government. “This is not only false publicity but also an attempt to deceive the people,” Sampla said. He added that such misleading actions violate political ethics and create confusion among the public, urging the administration to investigate the matter and ensure the truth is made clear.
The former minister further alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party has developed a pattern of taking undue credit for central government schemes. “Whether it is the Ayushman Bharat health scheme, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Jan Aushadhi Kendras, or the home ration distribution program, AAP leaders have often tried to project these as their own initiatives,” he said.
Sampla asserted that the people of Punjab are aware of such misleading tactics and will hold the Aam Aadmi Party accountable for its actions. He emphasised that politics should be based on honesty and transparency, not on false propaganda and misinformation.
