BJP leaders condemn attack on Sukhbir
The attack on former Deputy CM and SAD president Sukhbir Badal came in under condemnation from several BJP leaders today. The party leaders, condemning the attack, also questioned law and order in the state.
Former state BJP president Manoranjan Kalia today strongly condemned the attack on former Deputy Chief Minister and SAD president Badal when he was performing sewa as sewadar at the gate of Sri Harmandar Sahib (Golden Temple). Kalia said in spite of the about 200 security guards, the attacker was successful in coming close to Badal. He was saved by the timely action of security member who deflected the attack, risking his own life.
Kalia said, "It speaks volumes of deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab. If the former Deputy CM having Z security is not safe, what to talk about the safety of the common man?." Kalia further said the AAP government had failed miserably to maintain the law and order of Punjab.
Former Union minister and for state president Vijay Sampla also condemned the attack on the SAD chief.
Sampla in a statement said, "The attack on Sukhbir Sahib at the Darbar Sahib is condemnable. He was serving his punishment as per the edict of Akal Takht. The act is highly condemnable. At Darbar Sahib, a sewadar being attacked is akin to Darbar Sahib being attacked. Strictest punishment should be given to the attacker."
BJP state general secretary Anil Sarin also issue a public statement, stating, "The BJP strongly condemns the attack on Badal. We may have ideolgical and political disagreements but such kind of incidents cannot be tolerated. There is no place for violence in it. The incident raises questions on the state government's role and shows the law and order situation has collapsed. The fear of the police and government has vanished."
