Senior BJP leaders SR Ladhar, president of the BJP SC Morcha, Punjab, and Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal, national-level party leader, expressed concern over Punjab’s ‘deteriorating financial health’, citing a recent directive from the state’s Finance Department.

According to the order, all departmental funds across Punjab have been frozen and no new payments or financial sanctions will be processed until further notice.

“This directive is a clear admission that the state government is facing a severe financial crisis,” said Ladhar. “Not only have new payments been suspended, but even files already submitted for disbursement have been put on hold. The situation is deeply concerning for every citizen of Punjab.”

The BJP leaders emphasized that critical public welfare schemes are now at risk. Salaries, pensions, student scholarships, employment programmes, and welfare initiatives for women and senior citizens could come to a grinding halt if immediate corrective steps are not taken.

Grewal criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s fiscal management, saying, “The reckless populism and freebie promises made for electoral gains have pushed Punjab into a debt trap. This financial collapse is inevitable due to poor planning and misleading commitments made to voters.”
