Sucha Ram Ladhar, head of the Scheduled Caste Morcha, Punjab BJP, has criticised the state government for its blatant abuse of power in Punjab.

Talking to journalists here yesterday, he stated, “The AAP government is systematically undermining democratic norms by making politically motivated administrative appointments ahead of the Ludhiana West Assembly byelection. This is a direct attack on free and fair elections.”

Ladhar raised serious concerns about the recent transfer of Swapan Sharma as Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana.

“The Election Commission of India has clear guidelines that officers removed during elections due to concerns of bias cannot be reinstated in any election-bound district while Swapan Sharma was transferred from Jalandhar during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, yet the AAP government has now posted him in Ludhiana, where an important byelection is about to take place. This is a clear violation of Election Commission norms,” he said.

Expressing strong disapproval, Ladhar asserted, “The move by the AAP government is a deliberate attempt to manipulate law enforcement to serve its vested interests. It is an attempt to exert control over the police and administrative machinery to influence the electoral outcome. The people of Punjab must recognise this dangerous precedent.”

Issuing a stern warning, Ladhar stated, “The Scheduled Caste Morcha of Punjab BJP will not tolerate such unconstitutional practices. If this appointment is not immediately revoked, we will take the matter to the Election Commission of India to ensure that democratic principles are upheld.”

Concluding his statement, Ladhar urged, “The people of Punjab must resist these manipulative political tactics. Our democracy must be safeguarded from any undue influence. The Scheduled Caste Morcha of Punjab BJP is committed to ensuring justice, fairness and a truly impartial electoral system.”
