An ominous shift in the air was evident as scores of BJP workers flocked to a local palace to attend BJP state working president Ashwani Sharma’s meeting event in Jalandhar on Sunday.
While Sharma has been travelling across the state holding meetings with workers, the meetings are aimed at asserting his presence amid the BJP’s shifting dynamics in the state. As was also evident from today’s event, it was an obvious show of strength. Huge posters of Ashwani Sharma with district leaders congratulating him for being appointed the BJP’s “Karjkari Pradhan” dotted the district.
He said “Among all duped by AAP, most duped are women. They were promised Rs 1,000 and after 40 months (since AAP formed government), they owe my sisters Rs 40,000. Rather than my boards, put up boards asking AAP for Rs 40,000. Force them to give your money.”
Soon after, he also authoritatively asserted to workers, “Siyapa karo (on civic issues). Main tuhanu ghar baithan nahi deanga” (Protest. I won’t let you sit at home).”
He spoke on issues ranging from farmers, land pooling, drugs, ‘beadbi’, MSP to civic issues on which he asked workers to come to the streets. Senior party leaders were present.
