Jalandhar, August 7
Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) under the chairmanship of its state president Bhanu Pratap Rana staged protests on Friday against Congress MLAs in connection with more than 100 deaths due to poisonous liquor in the state.
Members of the Jalandhar (urban), led by BJYM district chief Baljit Singh Prince, held protests as per Covid protocol outside the offices and residences of Congress MLAs Rajinder Berry, Sushil Rinku, Bawa Henry and Pargat Singh.
Morcha’s deputy state president Ashok Sarin Hikki expressed deep sorrow over deaths due to spurious liquor. He alleged that the deaths were not an accident, but it was a nexus between ruling party leaders and illegal liquor traders. Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh is responsible for this as the police and excise department officials have failed to take action against drug smugglers due to pressure from Congress legislators.
Prince alleged that youth in the state were dying from drug overdose as the government had failed to stop the sale of drugs.
BJYM state sports co-incharge said the victims’ families alleged that ruling party legislators were responsible for deaths of innocent people.
Media co-incharge Arjun Trehan of the morcha said the state government had betrayed people of Punjab by not fulfilling the election promises. Ashok Sarin of the BJYM also raised alarm over the drug overdose deaths in Jalandhar.
City BJYM Lok Sabha in-charge Ashok Sarin Hikki, Baljit Prince, Sankul Mahajan, Abhi Sikka, Talwinder Singh Sheru, Sunny Dua, Shivam Chopra, Anupam, Neeraj Jassal, Kirandeep Randhawa, Sahil Sharma, Arjun Trehan, Dinesh Sharma, Naresh Walia, Arun Malhotra, Pankaj Sarangal, former district BJYM head Sanjeev Sharma Mani, Rahul Chopra, Yajit Huria and Honey Sharma were among the prominent persons participated in the protests.
