The body of a 24-year-old youth Harpreet Singh, who drowned in the Kandi canal on June 19, was recovered on Friday.
Talwara SHO Satpal Singh said the youth was bathing in the canal near Datarpur when he drowned. A search operation was launched immediately after the incident, but the body was finally recovered today. The youth's family members had contacted the police and informed them that Harpreet Singh, a resident of Banka village in Tarn Taran district, had gone missing while bathing in the canal.
Harpreet worked at a finance company. He along with five other friends had come to the area for work. On Thursday, due to the intense heat, they decided to bathe in the canal, but Harpreet accidentally drowned.
With the help of local residents, the body was recovered from the canal. ASI Om Prakash of Talwara police station said the body was sent for post-mortem at the local BBMB Hospital, and was later handed over to the family members.
