Farmers, steadfast in their protest at the Shambhu border for months, received a boost today as senior leaders from the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Doaba) joined them on the occasion of Parkash Purb of Guru Gobind Singh. The farmers are demanding legal minimum support price (MSP) for crops, among other pressing issues.

Davinder Singh, vice-president of BKU (Doaba), noted that the movement is regaining momentum, similar to the massive protests of 2020-2021. “Villagers have been consistently providing langar to the protesting farmers. On this auspicious day, many supporters came together,” he said.

A farmer from Jalandhar highlighted the logistical support being provided to the protesters. “The farmers at the Shambhu border are in need of essential supplies like water and cooking gas. Groups of villagers take turns to deliver these necessities,” he explained.

BKU (Doaba) has been an active participant in the protest, dividing their efforts between the Shambhu border and other locations where Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has called for protests.

Manjit Singh Rai, president of BKU (Doaba), recently joined the Punjab bandh protest at Dhanowali village. He criticised the Centre for reneging on its promises. “It is disheartening that after four years of struggle, the farmers are still waiting for their demands to be met. The Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Union Agriculture Minister have failed to even meet the farmers, let alone address their issues,” Rai said.
