Members of the National Martyrs Memorial Committee paid tributes to Subhas Chandra Bose on his 123rd birth anniversary at Red Cross Bhawan here on Thursday.

During an event, Jalandhar Central MLA Rajinder Beri, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and others remembered the national hero for his contribution to the nation’s freedom struggle.

Addressing the gathering, they said the life and sacrifice of the great national hero always inspire the youth for selfless service for the country.

They said today it was more important to make the younger generations aware of the hardships faced by great freedom fighters for the sake of emancipating the country from the Britishers.

They exhorted the youth to come forward for selfless service of the nation so as to cherish the aspirations of great freedom fighters.

They unequivocally said Netaji was a courageous, dynamic and visionary leader who led the countrymen from the front to emancipate the country from British rulers.

Events held in schools, colleges

Various schools and colleges organised events on the birth anniversary of Subhas Chandra Bose on their premises here on Thursday.

The student council of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya paid tributes to Subhas Chandra Bose. On this occasion, principal Prof Ajay Sareen encouraged students to become selfless and patriotic citizens of the country.

Rupam, joint head girl (undergraduates), and Surbhi Tandon, joint head girl (postgraduates), recited a motivational poem on the occasion.

Eklavya School organised an event to remember the freedom fighter. Students of the school took part in a parade on the occasion. A cultural programme was organised to remember Subhas Chandra Bose. School director Seema Handa was also present on the occasion.

School principal Arvinder Kaur gave a speech on the freedom fighter.
