Phagwara: A scooterist was killed on the spot while his pillion rider grandson sustained critical injuries when their Activa collided with a motorcycle near Phagwara on Thursday. Both rushed to the Civil Hospital, Phagwara, where scooterist Bakshish Singh(69) was declared brought dead while his grandson Kuljit Ram was referred to a private hospital.The police have registered a case against unknown motorcyclist who managed to escape. oc

6 booked for trespass

Phagwara: The police have booked six members of the family, including four women, on the charges of snatching, criminal trespass and criminal intimidation. Sandeep Singh of Dharamkot complained to the police that his in-laws had brought about three acres in Mianni village and has sent an application for land demarcation. He said a kanungo and patwari reached the spot for demarcation, but the accused started abusing them and issued threats to kill them and tried to set their vehicle afire. They were stopped from conducting demarcation. oc

Four 'drug peddlers' held

Phagwara: The Bilga police have arrested two persons on the charge of selling heroin. Ten gram of heroin was recovered from the possession of the accused Sukhmandeep Singh of Gorsianpeeran village and Ranjit Singh of Ajtanni village. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. The police arrested Kuldeep Singh of Mundi Kalu with 75 intoxicating capsules and 28 tablets. The police arrested Kuldeep Chand of Natt village with 29 tablets. oc

villager held for homicide

Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a villager on the charge of culpable homicide. The accused has been identified as Dilpreet, alias Preet of Talwandi Bharo village in Nakodar. Som Chand had complained to the police that the accused had administered some poisonous substance to his son Komal Preet which killed him on June 27. A case was registered against the accused. The Mehatpur police also arrested Vijay Singh, Shahkot, for culpable homicide. oc

Drug addict arrested

Phagwara: The police have arrested a 'drug addict' on the charge of consuming heroin. The accused has been identified as Surindar Singh, a resident of Madepura village in Ludhiana. A lighter, a silver paper, and a plastic pipe used for consuming contraband were recovered from his possession. oc

Villager held for liquor sale

Phagwara: The Nakodar police have arrested a villager on the charge of brewing and selling illicit liquor. As much as 25 kg of lahan was recovered from the possession of the accused Pawan Kumarof Chak Muglanni village. A case under Sections 61/1/14 of the Excise Act has been registered against the accused. oc
