Phagwara: In view of the rural elections, flag marches were held by the police in Phagwara, Nakodar, Shahkot and Phillaur last night. The police carried out massive flag marches across all villages. The primary objective of the marches was to ensure peaceful, fair and fear-free block samiti and zila parishad elections. During the march, citizens were encouraged to exercise their right to vote without any fear and cooperate with the police in maintaining peace and harmony. oc

Two arrested with heroin

Phagwara: The police, near Kapurthala railway station, spotted youth Joga Singh who turned back upon seeing them and threw a packet into bushes. He was caught and the packet was found to contain 10 gram of heroin. In a separate operation at a hi-tech naka near Goindwal Sahib bridge, the police intercepted scooter rider Sukhjeet Singh, who appeared nervous. A packet with 5 gram of heroin was recovered from him. Both were arrested and cases registered. oc

Drug addict arrested

Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested a person on the charge of consuming heroin. The accused has been identified as Vipin Kumar of Samrai village under Sadar Jamsher police station. A lighter, silver paper and plastic pipes used for consuming contraband were recovered from his possession. A case under section 27/61/85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. oc

Man held for burglary

Phagwara: The police have arrested a person on the charge of stealing household items. The accused has been identified as Guljit Singh, alias Shindu, of Burj Hassan village. Sukhwant Singh, a resident of the same village, had complained to the police that the accused and his accomplice stole household items from his house. A case has been registered against the accused. oc

Ilicit liquor: Many booked

Phagwara: The Bilga police have booked unidentified persons on charges of brewing and selling illicit liquor. A team of police was visiting banks of Sutlej near Sangowal village and found 100 bottles of hooch. oc

ONE booked for BIKE THEFT

Phagwara: The Nakodar police have booked a person on the charge of stealing a motorcycle. Sukhwindar Singh of Littaran village complained to the police that he had parked his motorcycle near Gurdwara Mallarri from where it was stolen. oc
