Man held for bank robbery in police remand
Phagwara: Gurminder Singh, key accused in the HDFC Bank robbery that took place in village Rihana Jattan near Phagwara, who was apprehended by the police on June 7 evening, was produced before the judicial magistrate, who sent the accused in police custody for five days. SSP Gaurav Toora said the remaining two accomplices had also been identified who would be nabbed soon. Three masked robbers entered the bank and looted Rs 30,34,802 at gunpoint on May 30.
7 held for drug peddling
Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested two 'drug peddlers' on the charge of selling intoxicating tablets. As many as 110 tablets were recovered from the possession of the accused Vishal Bawa, alias Viki, of Khurampur village and Gurmit Singh of Beetalan village. A case under Sections 22/61/85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused at Nakodar Sadar police station. The Bilga police arrested 'drug peddler' Resham Singh of Burj Hassan, with 160 intoxicating tablets. The Shahkot police arrested drug peddler Darshan Singh of Baupur village with 16 tablets. Besides, three more 'peddlers', including a woman, were held with 139 tablets.
Man booked for kidnapping
Phagwara: The Nakodar police have booked an unidentified person on the charge of kidnapping a girl. Tanish Kumar, a resident of Railway Road, complained to the police that an unidentified person had kidnapped his sister. A case has been registered against the unidentified miscreant.
Man held for taking drugs
Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested a 'drug addict. The accused has been identified as Major Singh of Bute Dian Chhana village. A lighter, a silver paper and a plastic pipe used for consuming the contraband were recovered from his possession. A case has been registered under Sections 27, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act against the accused.
Drunk man found dead
Phagwara: A migrant youth of Bihar and residing at Nihaluwal village was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Jai Kumar (25). A resident of Nihaluwal village told the police that the deceased died due to excessive drinking. The police handed over the body to the family after post-mortem.
Man dies in road accident
Hoshiarpur: A 40-year-old person died after his bike collided with a tree branch in village Chanthu Brahmana on the Mahilpur-Jejon road around 6 am on Monday. Gaurav Joshi of Inder Nagar, Phagwara, was returning to his village on a motorcycle after paying obeisance at a religious place in Himachal when the mishap took place. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital, Mahilpur, where doctors declared him dead.
