Brief: Many booked for abetment to suicide

Phagwara: The Phagwara police have booked many persons for harassment, defamation, and abetment to suicide, following a complaint by a woman of village Malikpur near Phagwara. The complainant alleged that Harjit Singh of Wazir Chak in Batala district, along with his acquaintance Mamta Rani of Khati, conspired to defame her. On August 7, some photographs of the complainant were allegedly sent to her relatives and friends. The victim claimed that the act caused her severe mental stress compelling her to consume poisonous substance in an attempt to end her life. She was rushed to the Civil Hospital, Phagwara, where she is undergoing treatment. oc

Four arrested for murder

Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested four miscreants on charge of murder. The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh, Abhishek Gharu, and Anmol Preet Singh, all residents of Kangana village, and Vishal of Eesewal village. The accused had attacked Karandeep of Kangana village, on July 29, intending to murder and seriously injure him, who succumbed to his injuries on August 6. Sharp-edged weapons were recovered from them. oc

2 ‘drug addicts’ arrested

Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have arrested a drug addict on the charge of consuming heroin. The accused has been identified as Kulwant Singh, alias Kanta, a resident of Danduwal village. The Bilga police arrested a drug addict Kuldeep of Bilga village for consuming heroin. oc

Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a man for stealing wheat from a house. The accused have been identified as Amrit Pal Ali, a resident of Kotla Surajmall village. Manjit Kaur of Nangal Ambian village complained to the police that the accused barged into her house on August 7 and decamped with bags of wheat. oc

Man held under NDPS Act

Phagwara: The Nakodar police have arrested a man on the charge of selling intoxicating tablets. As many as 24 tablets were recovered from the possession of the accused Amanjot, a resident of Gohir village. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered. oc
