Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a person for stealing cash and other items in area. The accused has been identified as Gulati Gulab of Duneke village in Moga district. The accused was indulging in theft and snatching and had snatched cash from Rajindar Pal of Shahkot during a religious procession. oc

Tractor driver booked

Phagwara: The police have booked a tractor driver on the charges of causing death by negligence and rash driving. The accused has been identified as Ravi Kumar of Kayam. Som Pal of Rajowal village complained to the police that the accused was driving his tractor trolley negligently and rash and killed his brother Balbir Kumar. oc

2 arrested under NDPS Act

Phagwara: The Nakodar police have arrested a personr on the charge of selling intoxicating tablets. As many as 53 tablets were recovered from the possession of the accused Balwindar Singh, alias Brand, of Malliankhurd village. A case has been registered under Sections 22/ 61/ 85 of the NDPS Act against the accused. The police arrested drug peddler Parmindar of Padda colony, Lohian, with 50 tablets. oc

NIT-Jalandhar rank goes up

Jalandhar: Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jalandhar, has secured the 666th position in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026. The institute has shown a significant upward trajectory in its performance and global standing. This year, NIT-Jalandhar surpassed 56.4 per cent of participating institutions, marking a sharp rise from 31.2 per cent in 2025 and 18.4 per cent in 2024. tns

Phagwara: The police have arrested two persons on the charge of consuming heroin. The accused have been identified as Jashanpreet Singh of Fatehpur Bhangwan village and Sukhpal Singh of Sidhupur village. oc

LPU gets 187th rank in Asia

Phagwara: Lovely Professional University (LPU) has achieved another milestone in global higher education by securing the 187th position in Asia and 7th among private universities in India in the prestigious QS World University Rankings: Asia 2026, announced by QS Quacquarelli Symonds. LPU now stands 17th among all government and private universities, marking a significant improvement from last year's 226th position in Asia and 27th in India. oc
