Brief: Six booked for assaulting man
Phagwara: Thepolice have booked six villagers, including a couple, for assaulting a villager. The accused have been identified as Sohan Singh of Yushafpur Allewal village, his wife Shindo, sons Buta Singh and Jogindar Singh Mohindar Singh and Balwant, residents of the village. Gurcharan Singh of Tibbi village in Kapurthala complained to the police that his brother Balkar Singh was coming to the village on his jeep loaded with fodder. When he reached near the house of Sonah Singh, the accused waylaid him and attacked and seriously injured him. A case has been registered against the accused. oc
Man held with intoxicated pills
Phagwara: The Rawalpindi police have arrested a man with intoxicated pills and drug money, registering a case under the NDPS Act. The police arrested Jarnail Singh, alias Jaila, of Ranipur. During the operation, the authorities seized 40 pills and ?13,500 drug money from his possession. The police had registered a case against the accused and launched further investigations to trace the drug supply network. oc
60-year-old dies in accident
Phagwara: A 60-year-old person has died in an accident. The deceased has been identified as Sukhdev Singh of Mullewal Brahmanna village. Paramveer Singh, son of the deceased, told the police that his father died in an accident. The police handed over the body to the family after post-mortem. oc
Two 'drug peddlers' held
Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested two 'drug peddlers' on the charge of selling heroin. As much as 20 gram heroin was recovered from the possession of the accused Nitin Kumar of Mohalla Chhimbian, Shahkot, and Ravindar Kaushal of Mohalla Bagh Wala, Shahkot. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. oc
Man held for casteist remark
Phagwara: The Nakodar police have arrested a villager for using casteist remark. The accused has been identified as Gurpal Singh of Nurpur Chatha village. Gagan Deep Singh of the same village had complained to the police that the accused used the remark against him in an audio recording sent to him on his WhatsApp number on September 27 last year. A case under the SC and S T Act 1989 was registered against the accused. oc
Protest by Anganwadi staff
Phagwara: Workers of the Anganwadi Mulazam Union Punjab staged a protest at the CDPO office on Hoshiarpur road, Phagwara, under the leadership of Jasvir Kaur, block president of the Anganwadi Mulazam Union (pro-CITU), Phagwara. The protesters raised several demands, including the boycott of new nutrition tracking tasks, such as survey registers and new registers, until the government provides mobile devices for the work. oc
