Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked a travel agent for allegedly duping a villager of Rs16.19 lakh on the pretext of sending his son abroad. DSP Vijay Kanwar Pal said the accused had been identified as Ishjindar Singh of Umrewal Billa village. Kashmir Singh of Ismailpur village complained to Jalandhar (rural) SSP that he paid Rs 16.19 lakh to the accused for facilitating his son's migration abroad but he was neither sent abroad, nor returned the money. A case under the Punjab Travel Profession Regulation Act has been registered against the accused after an inquiry. oc

Sangrur truck driver arrested

Phagwara: The police have arrested a Sangrur truck driver for causing death by negligence. The accused has been identified as Sukil Khan of Rattangarh Patainwali village in Sangrur. Parwindar Kumar of Mohalla Rampura, Phagwara, complained to the police that the accused was driving fast and negligently and hit his son Jaswindar Kumar's motorcycle on March 5 near Board Factory, Mehatpur, and killed him. oc

Peddler held with heroin

Phagwara: The police have arrested a drugs peddler and recovered 9 gm of heroin from his possession on Wednesday night. SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the arrested accused was identified as Balbir Kumar of Taki Mohalla, Phagwara. The accused was nabbed at a check-point near village Gandhwan. oc

NRI's house burgled

Phagwara: The house of NRI Santosh Kumari was reportedly burgled at Bhagatpura in Phagwara on Wednesday night. The burglars entered the house after breaking the locks and decamped with one pair of gold ear-rings and cash Rs 20,000 from the house. The police have registered a case under Section 379, IPC, in this regard. oc

Booked for stealing cattle

Phagwara: The Nakodar police have booked unidentified thieves for stealing cattle. Paramjit Singh of Uggi village complained to the police that thieves struck at his and two other villagers's cattle sheds on March 4 night and took away a cow, a buffalo and a buffalo calf. A case under the BNS has been registered.

SDO, contractor granted bail
