Phagwara: A 26-year-old woman was brutally murdered by her husband in Sanghe Khalsa village near Phagwara Wednesday night. The deceased Sandeep Kaur was the mother of two. Her husband Inderjit Singh had allegedly developed an illicit relations with his sister-in-law, which frequently led to quarrels between the couple. Police sources said the incident occurred when Singh allegedly attacked his wife with sharp-edged weapons, killing her on the spot. Her family and relatives rushed to the scene upon receiving the news. The police have registered a case against Inderjit and handed over the body of Sandeep Kaur to her parents after post-mortem examination. oc
Two arrested with heroin
Phagwara: The police have arrested two men in separate incidents and recovered 12 gm of heroin from them. In the first case, a police team intercepted a suspect Inderjit Singh alias Babu near Parm Chowk. On noticing the police, the man allegedly took out a transparent plastic packet from his trouser pocket and threw it into the roadside grass before attempting to flee. He was apprehended. A search led to the recovery of 7 gram of heroin. In another operation, a police team was patrolling near a railway crossing when a youth, walking towards them, allegedly removed a black plastic packet from his pocket and dropped it on the roadside. He was caught. The police recovered 5 gram of heroin from him. oc
pills seized from jail
Phagwara: A major security breach was foiled at the Kapurthala Central Jail after the authorities recovered a large quantity of illicit pills from an inmate and his visitor during a scheduled meeting. Inmate Karamveer Singh of Pakhopur, Tarn Taran, was searched during a routine security check inside the jail. Officers recovered 70 unmarked white pills concealed in his trouser pocket. Simultaneously, jail staff searched Rajwant Kaur, who had come to meet him. The search yielded 56 unmarked white pills from her. A case has been registered under the Prison Act and relevant sections of law. oc
250 kg liquor mash seized
Phagwara: The police in Talwandi Chaudharian seized 250 kg of illicit liquor mash during a raid at Khijarpur village and arrested one person. The operation was launched after a tip-off that Manpreet Singh was engaged in preparing and selling illicit liquor from his house. During the raid, Singh was caught while working with a drum containing mash. The police recovered around 250 kg of mash from the spot. oc
