Briefly: 2 bikes stolen in Phagwara
A scooter was found stolen before a house on Khera Road, Phagwara, on Saturday night. Owner Jaspreet said he parked his Activa before his house but found it stolen after some time. In another case, a motorcycle bearing the registration number PB-09AD-0371 was found stolen from the Model Town area here. Rajesh Kumar told the police that he parked his bike outside his house but found it stolen. The police have registered cases.
Gang of vehicle thieves busted
Phagwara: The police have busted an inter-district gang of vehicle thieves and arrested four youths after recovering five vehicles, including four bikes and one Activa, from their possession on Saturday night. SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the accused were identified as Lovepreet Singh of village Dogran near Ladhuwal, Deepak, Chetan, Anchit of Bhagatpura, Phagwara. They were produced before local judicial magistrate, who sent them in two-day police remand.
Bank guard dies in road accident
Garhshankar: A bank guard, returning home after finishing his night duty, died after being hit by a vehicle at Jejon Chowk in Mahilpur town on the main Chandigarh-Hoshiarpur road. Satnam Singh of Mahimdowal Kalan was returning home on his scooter after finishing his duty on Sunday morning. When he turned towards his house, a vehicle hit him. The vehicle ran over him and he died. The police reached the accident site, took the body of the deceased into custody and started scanning the nearby CCTV footages so that the vehicle could be traced.
Youth held with 50 gram heroin
Garhshankar: The police arrested a youth of Beet with 50 gram of heroin and registered a case. A police party had set up a check-post on Dallewal Pipliwal Road. A young man, walking from there, was stopped on the basis of suspicion and on being searched, 50 gram of heroin was recovered from him. The youth was identified as Vansh Rana, a resident of Dallewal. The police have arrested the accused and registered a case under the NDPS Act.
Firecrackers Godown sealed
Hoshiarpur: The police have arrested two persons, who had stored firecrackers in a godown, by violating the orders of the district administration and sealed the godwon. Police have registered a case. The police had received a secret information that Pritpal Singh, alias Pintu, and Harvinder Singh, alias Neetu, both residents of Puran Nagar, have illegally stored a large quantity of firecrackers in a godwon in Hardokhanpur by violating the orders of the district administration. On the basis of information, a raid was conducted and the accused were arrested. A large stock of firecrackers was found in the warehouse.
