Briefly: Bikers snatch cellphone, cash
Phagwara: Two unidentified motorcyclists snatched a mobile phone and Rs 1,260 in cash from a Hadiabad resident identified as Kuldip Kumar near Hardasspur village on Friday night. The victim was going on his Activa scooter when the suspects stopped him and snatched cellphone and cash from him. The police initiated a probe into the matter after registering a case under Sections 379B and 34 of the BNS in this connection. OC
One nabbed for woman’s murder
Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested a suspect on the charge of murdering a 34-year-old woman. Jai Pal, Station House Officer (SHO), said the suspect was identified as Kashmir Singh, alias Shira, a resident of Mohalla Khurlapur in Mehatpur, who murdered his sister-in-law identified as Jaspreet Kaur (34). Jasbir Singh, alias Mithu, a resident of Mohalla Khurlapur, complained to the police that his brother Shira bludgeoned his sister-in-law to death with bricks. The SHO said a case under Section 103 (murder) of the BNS had been registered against the suspect. OC

Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a proclaimed offender (PO) who had been on the run for the past four years. Investigating officer (IO) Gurnam Singh said the accused was identified as Raj Kumar, alias Raju, a resident of Rame village. He was wanted in a case of drug peddling registered in the year 2020, the IO said. OC
One held with 2kg poppy husk
Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested a drug peddler on the charge of selling poppy husk. Investigating officer (IO) Harjit Singh said 2 kg of poppy husk was recovered from the possession of the suspect identified as Santokh Singh, alias Sokha, a resident of Bajuha Khurd village. The IO said a case under Sections 15-B, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the suspect. OC
PO arrested after five years
Phagwara: The Bilga police have arrested a woman proclaimed offender (PO) who had been absconding for the past five years. Investigating officer (IO) Satpal said the accused was identified as Pinki, a resident of Mohalla Gajipur in Aadampur. She was wanted in case of cheating and breach of trust and violation of the Tour Operators and Travel Agents (Regulation) Act, 2022, registered in October 2019. TNS
Woman, son assaulted
Phagwara: The Nakodar Sadar police have booked three persons, including a woman, on the charge of assaulting a woman and her son. Investigating officer (IO) Harjit Singh said the suspects were identified as Ghula, a resident of Kullaran village, his wife Ranjana Kala, and their son identified as Katta. Baljit Singh, a resident of Kullaran village, complained to the police that the suspects barged into his house and attacked and injured him and his mother identified as Babli. The IO said a case had been registered against three suspects. OC
