Phagwara: The police have arrested a couple on the charge of helping their son in a rape case. A youth had raped a minor and his parents helped him in performing the abortion of the victim. The accused were identified as Darshan Singh, a resident of Sango Wal village under Bilga police station, and his wife Kulwinder Kaur. A case had been registered against the accused and their son. Two held for bootlegging

Phagwara: The police have arrested two for liquor smuggling and seized 18,000 ML of illicit liquor from them on Saturday night. The accused Harwinder of Noormahal and Simran of Satnampura, Phagwara, were nabbed at a check point. Their vehicle had also been impounded. A case under Punjab Excise Act has been registered against the accused. OC

Two arrested for gambling

Phagwara: The police have arrested two under the Gambling Act and seized three mobile phones and one laptop from their possession on Sunday. The accused were identified as Chander Sharma and Sanjeev Kumar, both residents of Phagwara. OC

3 arrested for assault, rioting

Phagwara: The police have booked eight persons on the charges of assault, criminal intimidation and rioting and arrested three suspects. They were Rawal, Sheru and Preet of Pati Akalpur Malsian village. Yuvraj Singh of Pati Akalpur Malsian village told the police that the suspects waylaid him and his brother and attacked them. OC

Travel agent held for duping

Phagwara: The police have arrested a travel agent for duping a man of Rs 48 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad. Accused Balraj Singh of Talwandi Bharo village is living in Mota Singh Nagar, Jalandhar. Sourav Sharma of Chuharr village had complained to the police that he had paid Rs 48.44 lakh to the accused for facilitating his migration abroad. However, neither did he was sent abroad nor did return the money. OC

Woman held for abetting suicide

Phagwara: The police have arrested a woman on the charge of abetting suicide. The accused Kamaljit Kaur of Wadala village is the mother-in-law of Gurdeep Singh of Mahun Wal village who had ended his life in May. A case was registered against the accused. OC

Three arrested with intoxicants

Nawanshahr: The Nawanshahr police have arrested Sanjeev Kumar of Banga with 40 intoxicated tablets and injections. Peddler Karan Singh was arrested with 18 tablets and injections from Kathgarh. With 4 g heroin, Harjinder Singh was arrested from Pojewal. The cases under the NDPS were registered against the peddlers. TNS
