Hoshiarpur: Two persons died in road accidents in the district in the last 24 hours. The police have registered cases and booked two persons. According to information, a person died after being hit by a bike near Tanuli village. The deceased has been identified as Gurjeet Singh of village Mona. The accused Om Kumar is a resident of Paili, SBS Nagar. Similarly, Amarjit Singh of Jalalpur, told the police that he was going towards Begowal on a bike with Jagir Ram. A car hit the bike. Jagir was killed while he got injured. A case has been registered against Johnny of Buttran, Jalandhar. OC

Burglars take away ornaments
Phagwara: The house of a villager Makhan Singh was reportedly burgled in village Chiherru near Phagwara on Thursday night. The burglars entered the house after breaking open the locks and took away gold ornaments and other valuable goods worth more than Rs 2 lakh. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. OC

Motorcycle found stolen
Phagwara: A motorcycle, bearing the registration number RJ-23VS-4185, was found stolen from near a paying guest accommodation in village Miherru near Phagwara on Thursday night. Bike owner Ajit Jakhar, presently residing in a PG facility near Law Gate, told the police that he parked his bike outside his accommodation but found it stolen the next morning. The police have registered a case. OC

Villager held for extortion
Phagwara: The police have arrested another Tarn Taran villager on charges of extortion and criminal intimidation. The accused has been identified as Karanbir Singh of Munda village under Tarn Taran Sadar police station. Love Preet Singh of Yusaf Pur Dare Wal village had complained to the police that the accused and his accomplice made two calls on July 10 and demanded Rs 50 lakh as ransom money and fired a gunshot at his house. A case has been registered. OC

Man held for rash driving
Phagwara: The police have arrested a vendor on the charges of rash driving and creating mischief. The accused has been identified as Amanpreet Singh of Kotla Suraj Mall. Jang Sher Singh of Dhando Wal village had complained to the police that the accused was driving his vehicle very fast and hit him. A case has been registered. OC

Two of Fazilka held for theft
Phagwara: The Nakodar police have arrested two Fazilka-based persons on the charge of stealing household goods from a house. The accused have been identified as Ajay Kumar of Saivian Road and Ram of Fazilka. Paramjit Singh of Bhalla Enclave, Nakodar, complained to the police that the accused barged into his house on July 27 and stole an inverter with a battery, tractor batteries, taps from bathrooms, an LCD, and other materials.
