Burglars’ gang busted, three arrested with stolen property
The Jalandhar (Rural) police have apprehended three members of a burglars’ gang which specifically targeted NRI properties and vacant houses in the region. The police recovered stolen property along with a vehicle used for committing crimes from the possession of the accused.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Kuldeep Kumar, originally from Mahsi village, Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh, presently residing near PPR Mall, Jalandhar; Sonu Kashap from Ramghat village, Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh, also residing near PPR Mall; and Parmeet Singh, a resident of House No. 444/1, Mata Rani Chowk, Model Town, Jalandhar.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said the accused were arrested during a special operation launched by the crime branch under the supervision of SP (Investigation) Jasroop Kaur and DSP (Investigation) Sarvanjit Singh. The operation, led by Sub-Inspector Amandeep Verma, was executed on the basis of credible inputs received about suspicious activities in the Bidhipur area.
Giving more details, SSP Khakh said the gang employed sophisticated techniques, using specialised tools to break into locked houses during the night hours. The accused were apprehended while they were travelling in a car bearing registration number Punjab 01 E 7724, which was also impounded during the operation. The police recovered fifty stolen taps among other valuables from the possession of the accused.
A case was registered at the Maqusdan police station against the three accused, the SSP said, while adding that the accused were produced before a court which remanded them into police custody for further investigation.
“Initial investigation suggests that this gang has been active across multiple districts, specifically targeting properties belonging to NRIs and vacant houses. Their police remand will help us uncover their criminal activities and identify accomplices,” the SSP said.
He said, “The police are conducting a thorough investigation to recover more stolen property and identify the network used to dispose of these items. The police are also examining possible connections to other similar cases reported in the region.”
