To commemorate the Independence Day in Austria, the Cricket Academy Austria (CAA) has organised a special five-day cricket cup, bringing together the Indian community in a vibrant celebration of culture and sport. The cricket cup which started on August 10 at Seebarn Cricket Ground in Lower Austria, was spearheaded by CAA president Lakhvir S Hira and his wife Anjuman Hira, and will conclude tomorrow with flag hoisting.
Under the leadership of Lakhvir S Hira, alongside general secretary Gaurav Kaushal and treasurer Santhosh Allala, the event will feature a mix of cricket, cultural activities and community engagement, creating a unique platform for the Indian diaspora in Austria to come together in the spirit of unity.
The festivities will be graced by several high-profile guests, including the chief guest, Shambhu S Kumaran, Ambassador of India to Austria. Joining him will be guest of honour Arun Kanth Manoharan, Consular of India, and special guest Alexander Raicher, Mayor of Harmannsdorf.
Additionally, several senior officials from the Indian Embassy in Vienna will attend the function, lending their support to the occasion.
“One of the key highlights of the event will be the flag-hoisting ceremony on August 15, led by Ambassador Kumaran at noon. This will be followed by the much-anticipated finals of the Independence Day Cricket Cup, with the prize distribution ceremony scheduled for evening”, said Lakhvir Hira.
He said apart from this, special women’s cricket workshop will be held, providing a platform for female cricketers to showcase their skills.
