Campus notes: All-India Inter-NIT Sports Tourney ends
Jalandhar: Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT) hosted the All India Inter-NIT Basketball and Table Tennis (Men and Women) tournaments. A total of 80 teams, comprising 850 players, 25 sports officials and 40 team in-charges, from 26 NITs participated in the event. During the closing ceremony, Professor Binod Kumar Kanaujia, Director of NIT, expressed plans to organise similar national-level tournaments in the future. Dr GS Dhaliwal, Professor and Head of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, credited several NIT staff members, including Professor Ajay Bansal, Professor Anish Sachdeva, Professor Subash Chand and Dr Vijay Kumar, for their roles in the tournament’s success. Dr Dhaliwal also said expert coaches would be brought in soon to train the institute’s teams for upcoming tournaments.
Mother Language Day at college
Jalandhar: The Department of Punjabi at Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women marked International Mother Language Day with a face-to-face interaction featuring Dr Satish Kumar Verma. The college principal, Dr Navjot, shared insights on the growth and development of the Punjabi language. Dr Verma enriched the discussion with his views and students thoroughly enjoyed the event, finding it informative and engaging. Dr Navjot commended Dr Akal Amrit Kaur, Head of the Department of Punjabi, for organising the event.
Financial literacy workshop
Jalandhar: Innocent Hearts Group of Institutions’ School of Management, in collaboration with the academic committee, hosted a two-day workshop titled ‘Financial Literacy and Career Awareness’. The workshop aimed to enhance students’ understanding of finance and career opportunities in the financial sector, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) – Quality Education. Domain experts Anita Saini, a Securities Market Trainer from SEBI and Nagesh Kumar, a certified trainer from NISM, led sessions covering topics like investment planning, portfolio diversification, mutual funds and stock market trends. Students were also educated on career prospects, the importance of professional certifications and strategies to avoid investment fraud.
School hosts ‘Jashan-e-Parwaaz’
Jalandhar: HMV Collegiate Senior Secondary School bid farewell to its outgoing students with a grand event, ‘Jashan-e-Parwaaz 2025’, organised under the guidance of the principal, Prof Ajay Sareen. The event was a celebration of the students’ years at the school, filled with memories and emotional moments. Prof Sareen delivered an inspiring speech, urging the students to be ambassadors of the values they learned at the institution. The event also featured a heartfelt poem titled “Dear Seniors” by Nancy of SSC-1 (Commerce). Students were honoured with various titles, including Hargun Kaur as Miss Farewell and Ishita as the first runner-up.
School hosts spring carnival
Jalandhar: Nehru Primary School organised a vibrant Spring Carnival, featuring performances by students from Nursery to Class II. The headmistress, Jyoti Bhardwaj, welcomed guests and parents to the event. Students presented songs and dances celebrating the spring season, with a special Bhangra performance by Class II students. Various fun games were also organised, which were well-received by the children and parents alike.
Innocent Hearts hosts farewell
Jalandhar: Innocent Hearts School, Green Model Town, held a heartfelt farewell ceremony titled ‘Hasta la Vista’ for its outgoing Class 12 students. The event was attended by key management members, including Shally Bowry, Aradhana Bowry, Dr Palak Gupta Bowry and the principal, Rajeev Paliwal. The ceremony featured a cultural programme, with the titles of Mr and Ms Innocent awarded to Abhinav and Gurmannat, respectively. The principal, Rajeev Paliwal, delivered a speech, urging students to face future challenges with determination and enthusiasm.
Mother Language Day at St Soldier
Jalandhar: St Soldier Divine Public School, Mann Nagar, marked International Mother Language Day with various activities to celebrate the Punjabi language. Students of all classes participated in poetry, story and writing competitions, all conducted in their mother tongue, Punjabi. The staff of the school school also educated students about the Punjabi alphabets, while the students showcased posters promoting the language. The group vice-chairperson, Sangeeta Chopra, congratulated the students and urged them to stay connected with their mother tongue.
