Campus notes: Annual Inter-College Event
GNA University hosted its annual Inter-College Competition – Kshitiz 2025, which saw the participation of over 700 students from different districts of Punjab. The event featured 12 exciting competitions, including a business quiz, treasure hunt, master chef, Punjabi folk, photography, CAD contest, CNC simulator, robotics simulator, game mania, mobile app designing, spell bee, rangoli, and character designing. The event was inaugurated by Chancellor Gurdeep Singh Sihra, and Dr Hemant Sharma, the Vice-Chancellor, delivered a welcome address. Winners received cash awards, with the first-place team receiving Rs 5100, the second-place team receiving Rs 3100, and the third-place team receiving Rs 2100. The overall winners were awarded prizes worth Rs 11,000, with Mehr Chand Polytechnic College taking the top prize.
Havan Ceremony at BCM Arya Model Shastri Nagar: BCM Arya Model Sr Sec School, Shastri Nagar, welcomed its new Nursery students with a sacred Havan ceremony to invoke divine blessings for their academic journey. The ceremony, attended by around 400 students, their parents, the School Management, Director, and Principal, created a spiritually enriched atmosphere. The resonating chants of mantras purged the environment, bringing positive energy to the young learners. Following the Havan, a Meet & Greet session was held, where students interacted with their first teachers, and parents were introduced to the school’s daily schedule. The Kindergarten Block, adorned with vibrant displays, further welcomed families. Principal Dr Anuja Kaushal emphasised that the Havan marked a harmonious start to the academic year, instilling confidence and enthusiasm in the students.
Educational Visit Jalandhar: The Department of Zoology and Botany of Lyallpur Khalsa College organized an educational visit to Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nurmahal. A group of 34 students, accompanied by faculty members Dr Gagandeep Kaur (HOD), Dr Heminder Singh, and Dr Surbjit Singh, received practical exposure to modern agricultural practices and scientific advancements in farming. During the visit, experts at KVK demonstrated various agricultural techniques such as beekeeping, vermicomposting, goat rearing, integrated poultry and fish farming, organic farming, crop management, soil testing, and integrated pest management. The students learned about sustainable agricultural practices and modern farming equipment, gaining deeper insights into the practical aspects of agriculture and its connection to biological sciences.
International Congress on Glasses Jalandhar: Two scholars from the PG Department of Physics at Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (KMV) – Haramanpreet Kaur and Anchal Pathania – presented their research findings at the prestigious International Congress on Glasses (ICG-2025) held at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata. This significant event, organised by CSIR-CGCRI and ICG, was the first time it was held in India in 39 years. Haramanpreet is working on a DST-SERB Power Project in collaboration with TIFR, while Anchal is involved in a BRNS project with BARC, under the guidance of Dr Gopi Sharma and Dr Neetu Verma. The students presented their research findings through posters, which were well-received by experts in the field. The event allowed them to interact with distinguished personalities such as Prof Arun Varshneya, Prof Edgar Dutra Zanatto, and Prof Manoj Chaudhary, further enriching their knowledge and research.
WORKSHOP ON Therapeutic Alliance Jalandhar: The Freudian Psychological Society of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organised a one-day workshop on “Therapeutic Alliance: The Soul of Successful Therapy.” The resource person, Dr Atul Madaan, a Clinical Psychologist, explained how students can establish a strong connection with clients for an effective therapeutic process. He also discussed the qualities and skills necessary for an effective counsellor and engaged students in role plays for better understanding. Principal Prof Dr Ajay Sareen appreciated the initiative and congratulated the faculty of the PG Department of Psychology. She emphasised the growing need for counsellors and the importance of organizing such workshops. Priya Seth (Assistant Professor) delivered the vote of thanks.
