Jalandhar: The Annual Sports Day function was held at Delhi Public School. All the students of junior and senior wing participated in various events. The chief guest at the event was Vikram Rathore, a well-known cricketer who is presently coaching T-20 World Cup players. The special guest was Vasudha Thakur, a social activist who is working in education and other fields. The highlight of the event was the march past by the students of various houses in which NCC cadets and the school band participated. Guest of honour, Col Vinod Joshi, Commanding Officer, 2 Punjab NCC Battalion, and Col Vidu Dangwal, Military Hospital, evaluated the march past. The students displayed their talent and skills by giving their best performance in various sports competitions. Nearly 100 students along with the school band mesmerised the audience by singing melodious songs. An exhibition of mathematics and science was organised in the school premises. The students displayed the art, culture and history of Orissa and Punjab in a beautiful manner. DPS Principal Ritu Kaul said that all the teachers and students had been practising for the annual sports day for the past one month.
Alumni meet
Jalandhar: The alumni meet of Lyallpur Khalsa College was held in the college campus. The day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Balbir Singh, former Member of Parliament, Cabinet Minister, Punjab and former president of the College Governing Council. He was an alumnus of the college. Padma Shri awardee Pargat Singh, former captain of the Indian hockey team and a college alumnus was the chief guest and Darshan Singh Mahil was the guest of honour. The president of the College Governing Council Balbir Kaur along with the members of the Governing Council and Principal Dr Jaspal Singh warmly welcomed the chief guest. College Principal Dr Jaspal Singh expressed his thanks to the alumni for sharing their experiences and giving their valuable feedback. He also recounted the contribution of the alumni of the college at the national as well as international level. Pargat Singh recollected his past experiences in the college and lauded it for its special contribution to the field of sports. Director, Alumni Association, Prof Sanjeev Kumar Anand, highlighted the activities of Alumni Association.
Award for polytechnic
Jalandhar: Mehr Chand Polytechnic College was honoured with the Best College of Punjab State award for the year 2024 at the National Education Summit-3 held in Kurukshetra, Haryana. The programme was organised under the banner of the Rashtriya Garima Awards by the independent and renowned NGO group, Bhagwati Welfare Society, based in Haryana-Delhi. Directors and principals from 100 selected colleges across the country were recognised and honoured. Principal Dr Jagroop Singh congratulated the staff and students for this recognition.
Competitions held
Jalandhar: Students of The Gurukul school performed well in the competitions organised by Satyug Darshan Trust. The students brought laurels to the school and their parents by winning many prizes at the city and district level. In the competitions, organised at the city level, students of ‘The Gurukul’ School won first place in street play, first place in rangoli, first prize in devotional dance, second place in group song and consolation prize in folk dance. In the competitions organised at the district level, students of ‘The Gurukul’ school won first place in street play and received Rs 5,100, and also won consolation prize in devotional dance. School director Sushma Handa expressed pride in this achievement of the students and motivated them to perform well. Principal Radha Gakkhar also congratulated the students.
English language activity
Jalandhar: Students of Class 2 of Eklavya School were taught countable and uncountable nouns through sorting card activity. It included 24 flash cards of 12 countable nouns and 12 uncountable nouns. Through this activity, the students understood the topic in a very interesting manner. Chairman of Eklavya School JK Gupta encouraged the way of learning topics through various activities so that students can improve their learning ability. Director of Eklavya School, Seema Handa said that these activities encouraged the students to extrapolate beyond the information they receive in class. Principal of Eklavya School, Komal Arora and Administrator Dimple Malhotra emphasised on teaching children through activities.
Guru’s Martyrdom Day
Jalandhar: The Martyrdom Day of Guru Teg Bahadur was celebrated with great devotion at the junior and senior wing of Guru Amar Dass Public School. A special prayer meeting was held on the occasion, in which the students sang Shabad and poems and Sakhis related to Guru Sahib’s martyrdom. Religious teacher Jasjit Kaur threw light on the life of the Guru, connecting the students with Sikh history. Mohinderjit Singh, president, Committee, and Principal Dr Aparana Mehta inspired the students to follow the path of the Gurus.
Quiz competition
Jalandhar: CJS Public School conducted a quiz competition for class UKG. The students gave tough fight to each other. Rules and regulations were explained in the beginning. It was an interesting, three-round competition including question round, time-bound MCQ round and buzzer round. Chairperson Neena Mittal and Principal Rajni Rani encouraged these students by giving certificates to the winning students— Agamveer Singh, Gursewak Singh, Prabhnoor Singh and Suhana Shukla
IKGPTU Zonal youth festival-2024
Jalandhar: Lyallpur Khalsa College Technical Campus students were felicitated for representing the institute at IKGPTU Zonal Youth Festival-2024. Students participated in various events like collage making, on-the- spot photography, quiz, creative writing, clay modelling, elocution, rangoli, cartooning, debate, poster making and giddha. More than 40 students showcased their talent, out of which Ria stood second in clay modelling, Mehak stood first position in creative writing (poem writing), Dinker stood first in creative writing (short story) and Sarabjit got third position in classical vocal. Director Dr RS Deol lauded the efforts put in by the participants under the guidance of Dr Nidhi Chopra (Dean, Students Welfare) and well supported by the cultural committee coordinators, Dr Nancy Gupta and Parul Nanda, besides members of the cultural committee.
