Jalandhar: Lyallpur Khalsa College, Technical Campus, played host to ‘Abhinandan’, a freshers’ party organised for the first year graduate, undergraduate and diploma students in management, IT, HM, engineering, medical lab sciences and pharmacy. Balbir Kaur (president, Governing Council) bestowed her blessings upon the new students. The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Sukhbir Singh Chatha (director, Academic Affairs), RS Deol (director), SK Sood (deputy director), Kapil Kanwar (Principal, Pharmacy) and Inderpal Singh (Dean, Research and Examination). The event unfolded with a welcome dance, followed by modelling. The title of Mr Fresher went to Gurpreet Singh (MCA) and Ms Fresher was bagged by Simran Yadav (MBA). Tushar (BVOC) became Mr Handsome and Jaskamal Mahey (MBA) got the crown of Ms Confident.
Sports Competitions
Jalandhar: The students of Innocent Hearts School excelled in the zonal and district-level sports competitions organised by the Punjab School Education Board. The students who secured the first place in the competitions have been selected for the state-level games. In the zonal sports competitions, the girls’ team won the first place in cricket, handball, and kho-kho in the U-14 and U-19 categories, respectively. The boys’ badminton team secured the first place in the U-19 category. In the district-level competitions, Veeren Bhagat won the first place in karate in the U-14 boys’ category. Arshia Sachdeva excelled in boxing and gymnastics in the U-17 girls’ category.
Bhagat Singh’s Birth Anniversary
Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya paid tribute to Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh on the occasion of his 117th birth anniversary. Principal Atima Sharma Dwivedi, along with the faculty members and the students paid a floral tribute at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Heritage Memorial in the KMV hostel. She averred that the courageous sacrifice of Bhagat Singh ignited the spark of patriotism among countless people and a country always needs these such people for better development and progress. She added that it is a matter of great pride that KMV has a close connection with Bhagat Singh as he was very close to KMV’s then Principal Acharya Lajjawati and used to take shelter at KMV during the struggle for national freedom. The institution has constructed a heritage memorial in the surroundings of its hostel. A slogan and poster-making competition was also organised. The principal congratulated Gurjot, Head, Department of History, and the organising committee for holding the event.
Swachhta Hi Seva Abhiyan
Jalandhar: The NSS unit of DAV College, Jalandhar, started the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva Abhiyan’ under the leadership of Principal Rajesh Kumar. He said that the programme is a significant initiative of the Government of India towards cleanliness. He added that apart from maintaining cleanliness in homes, surroundings, institutions etc, it is also important to make other people aware. He described the indiscriminate use of plastic in the country. On the occasion, NSS coordinator Sahib Singh also shared his views and said that nature has blessed us with many things for free and it is our moral responsibility to care for it. The volunteers took a cleanliness oath and raised slogans. Programme Officer Gurjit Kaur also shared her views on the cleanliness drive. Vivek Kumar, Programme Officer, thanked everyone.
