Campus notes: Inter-NIT Table Tennis Tournament
Jalandhar: Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, has proved its supremacy among 24 NITs across the country in the field of sports by winning gold medals in the All India Inter-NIT Tournaments. In All India Inter-NIT Table Tennis (Girls) tourney organised by NIT Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), NIT Jalandhar won gold medal by defeating the host team in the final. Priyanka Bansal, vice-captain (B.Tech 3rd year, chemical engineering) got the Best Player of the Tournament trophy. Recently, NIT Jalandhar girls’ cricket team also won the gold medal in All India Inter-NIT Cricket Tournament held at NIT Rourkela (Odissa). Physical Education and Sports Department of NIT Jalandhar will organise the Annual Athletics Fest on February 23-24. Director NIT Jalandhar Prof Binod Kumar Kanaujia praised the performance of the table tennis team.
Live screening of national budget
The PG Department of Economics of PCM SD College for Women held the live screening of the national budget for the students of economics. The live screening helped students grasp key provisions regarding allocations and policy measures proposed by the government. The event also served as a platform for students to enhance their civic engagement, critical thinking and awareness of economic and political issues. Students of BA and B.Sc (Economics) Semester II, IV and VI attended the event. President Naresh Budhia, senior vice-president Vinod Dada and Principal Prof Pooja Prashar encouraged the initiative in bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world economic challenges.
Students Visit radio station
Ivy World Play School organised a visit to radio station for the tiny-tots. A host of learning-based activities were conducted for the students, creating a splendid aura of magnificent erudition. The trip provided an opportunity for the kindergarten students to explore the enchanting world of radio broadcasting. Guided by staff, the young visitors witnessed first-hand the inner workings of a live radio station as the control rooms and studios bustled with activity. The visit provided an invaluable opportunity for the children to learn about the captivating realm of media and storytelling. Through interactive demonstrations and engaging discussions, they gained insight into the fascinating process of creating radio content.
Basant Panchami celebrated
Basant Panchami was celebrated by the students of St Soldier Divine Public School, Maan Nagar, in which the school students were all dressed up wearing yellow clothes. The programme was started by worshiping Saraswati, the Goddess of Learning by Group Chairman Anil Chopra and Vice-chairperson Sangeeta Chopra, school staff and students. The students celebrated spring by flying kites. Describing the importance of the day, Group Chairman Anil Chopra and Vice-chairperson Sangeeta Chopra said that worshipping Saraswati on this day brings blessings of knowledge and wisdom and said that the future also depends on knowledge and wisdom. Sangeeta Chopra distributed sweets to the students and congratulated them.
Farewell party at Eklavya School
Eklavya School, Jalandhar, organised a farewell party for Class 12 students. The ceremony started with the welcoming of Class XII students in a traditional way. Arshdeep Kaur, Momrath and Shivani Janghra of Class XI welcomed and introduced the guests. The programme started with a speech delivered by Arshdeep Kaur which was followed by different games that added flavour to the moment and students had fun with their friends. Students cherished the videos presented by their juniors. Titles were given to the students as per their nature. Miss Farewell title went to Heena and Miss Farewell title went to Ankarjit. A dance performance presented by Class XI students was lauded. The Class XII students cut the farewell cake. Refreshments were served to all the students and teachers. Director Seema Handa said, “On each step of your life, you may find difficulties but you should be determined towards achieving your aim.”
School bids farewell to students
The students, staff and management of Tagore’s International Smart School (TISS) bid farewell to the outgoing students of Class XII. The day was a fiesta devoted to the years spent together with friends and teachers, to reminisce joyous moments. All the dignitaries were felicitated with saplings as they graced the day with their benign presence. The music group recited a soulful prayer followed by melodious heart touching songs. In boys’ group, Master Farewell was Sahil, the first runners-up was Jasnoor Singh and second runners-up was Jugraj Singh. In girls’ group, Miss Farewell was Ananya Jain, the first runners-up was Sakshi and the second runners-up was Prabhleen. Dean Vinod Shashi Jain passed on the light of wisdom to all the students of Class XII. Director of school Ruchika Jain blessed the students and provided them with tips to score good results.
DAV students visit Kangra Fort
MLU DAV College, Phagwara, organised a trip to Kangra Fort in Himachal Pradesh. The trip included over 50 students along with faculty members. The trip marked a break from the mundane routine of class work to a refreshing moment and activity. The students enjoyed the landscape of Himachal Pradesh and explored the scenic view of the historic Kangra Fort built by Rajputs of Katoch dynasty. Besides Kangra Fort, the students also visited Bagalamukhi temple located in the same district of Himachal Pradesh. The river sites and the mountainous terrain gave immense joy and extraordinary adventure to the students.
Birth anniv of Dayanand Saraswati
Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya celebrated the 200th birth anniversary of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati under the guidance of Principal Prof Ajay Sareen. Dr Sareen said that Maharishi’s birthday should be celebrated as “Gyan Utsav”. The principal appreciated the efforts of Vedic Adjyan Samiti, Arya Yuvti Sabha and Sanskrit Department for organising the ceremony. On the occasion, a series of events were organised to mark the celebrations. Principal Dr Sareen congratulated the winners of various competitions. The principal thanked Dr Jyoti Khanna, Principal, Santoor International School, for her address. A poster-making competition was organised in which more than 40 students participated. Deepika stood first, Pooja stood second and Sunaina stood third in the competition. A declamation contest on the contribution of Maharishi Dayanand, his life, importance of his teachings in modern day world was also organised in which 20 students took part. Anchal, Jhanvi, Muskan stood 1st , 2nd and 3rd while Aditi and Rashmi won consolation prizes.
