The School of Natural Science under the aegis of GNA University organised a week-long National Science Day on the theme ‘Indigenous technology for Viksit Bharat’. The Science Day celebration has been started with the first event, ‘FitFest-Comit to be fit in science’, followed by an awareness session by Dr Kuljit Kaur, Associate Professor, Chemistry, GNA University. A guest lecture on ‘Going zero waste’ was delivered on the third day by Meenal Verma, environmentalist and sociologist, Jalandhar. Students participated in various events like working and non-working models, rangoli competition, poster presentation and debate competition which enhanced their scientific skills. More than 200 students from the university participated in the events, expressed their ideas and exchanged knowledge about the importance of science for global well-being.
Annual Day celebrated at DAv School
Jalandhar: The annual day ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam: One World One Family’ was organised at Police DAV Public School. The dignitaries present on the occasion included Inderbir Singh, DIG/Admin, PAP and Arvind Ghai, Secretary, DAV CMC, New Delhi. Sween Puri, manager of the school, SK Arora and principals of various schools and other guests also graced the occasion. Principal Dr Rashmi Vij accorded a floral welcome to the guests. The students mesmerised the audience with ‘Saraswati Vandana’. The musical dance drama ‘Vasudhaiva Kutambakam’ brought forth the message of compassion towards all creations and how animals and humans must exist with mutual love, empathy and gratitude. The musical extravaganza included modelling, circus, yoga, skating, zip-line, magic show, juggler show, ribbon dance, hula hoop dance and animal dance.
Prize distribution ceremony
A prize distribution ceremony was organised for kindergarten students by State Public School, Jalandhar Cantt. The central idea behind the ceremony was to make tiny tots proud of their wonderful journey. The students received medals honouring their success of passing to the next level. The categories for the awards were ‘All Rounder’, ‘Best In Academic’, ‘Best Writer’, ‘Best Artist’, ‘Best Dancer’ and so on. The efforts of the teachers and the parents along with students were commendable which got recognised through the prize distribution ceremony. Principal Savina Bahl congratulated the award winners and the proud parents and wished them good luck for the upcoming session.
National Safety Day
Eklavya School celebrated National Safety Day in school campus. National Safety Day in India is observed every year on March 4 to generate awareness and commitment to working safely. The National Safety Council, an NGO, plays a major role in advocating occupational safety, road safety and human health safety. On National Safety Day, various institutions, NGOs and governments create awareness about occupational risks and hazards and focus on preventive measures that can be taken to prevent injuries or accidents. Primary class students participated in slogan-writing and painting. Posters and slogans were made by the students of Class 5. On the occasion of National Safety Day, various ideas were used to highlight safety measures. Seema Handa, Director of Eklavya School, said that every individual should be aware of safety measures.
15 years as Principal
Dr Jagroop Singh has completed 15 years as the Principal of Mehr Chand Polytechnic College. He had taken over charge as Principal in February 2009. During his tenure, the college had won four times the award for being the Best Polytechnic of Northern India. During his time, the college got the title of Community College from the Human Resources Ministry and a grant of more than Rs 1 crore was released. The college collaborated with Hackney Community College, London, for exchange of technologies and a grant of Rs 31 lakh was given. An auditorium with a capacity to seat about 1,000 students has also been built along with various blocks. This year, the college is celebrating its platinum jubilee. Dr Jagroop Singh said that 36,000 students completed their diploma from Mehr Chand Polytechnic and are serving as engineers in various departments.
