Campus Notes: National Sports Meet concludes

Jalandhar: The 53rd KVS National sports meet concluded with a grand closing ceremony at Lovely Professional University. The competition saw participation of 1,100 players from 25 regions of various Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country in handball U-14 and 17 categories and boxing U-14, 17 and 19 categories. The event had Daljit Singh, Assistant Commissioner of GST Audit Circle, Jalandhar, and an international hockey player as the chief guest. Welcome address was delivered by PC Tewari, Assistant Commissioner of KVS RO, Chandigarh. A spectacular traditional dance called ‘Sammi’, presented by students of KV Suranussi, was the highlight of the show. In the finals of handball (boys) U-14, the Hyderabad region got the first position, Dehradun bagged second position and Patna secured the third place. The overall championship trophy for boxing boys in all categories — U 14, U-17 and U-19 — was clinched by the Gurugram region. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Karambir Singh, KV Principal, Pathankot.

Hindi Diwas celebrated

Jalandhar: Hindi Diwas was celebrated by the PG Department of Hindi at Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women in which the students participated enthusiastically. Poetry recitation and literary antakshari competitions were organised highlighting the importance of the language. A poster-making competition was also organised along with the Fine Arts Department, in which Dr Rupali Razdan, Head of the Department of Fine Arts, was the judge. Hindi Sahitya Parishad was also formed in which Saloni was made the president; Amrita became the vice president; Manpreet the secretary; Srishti was selected as deputy secretary and Chahat was made the treasurer.

NETBALL TOURNAMENT

Jalandhar: The 68th district level netball tournament was organised at Seth Hukam Chand SD Public Senior Secondary School. Teams from government, aided and private schools participated in this tournament. Principal Priyanka Sharma inaugurated the tournament. In the boys’ category, U-17 and U-19 teams of Seth Hukam Chand school bagged the first position. In U-14, DMS, Nakodar, got the first position.

Volleyball Tournament

Jalandhar: Students from Premjot Public Senior Secondary School bagged the second position in the 'Khedan Watan Punjab Dian’ volleyball tournament ( U-17 block-level) and qualified for the district-level tournament. Nihal, Tejvir Singh and Davinder from Class X; Saman , Haranmol Singh, Gurnam Singh, Manpreet Singh, Gursewak Singh and Divanshu Raj from Class IX participated in the volleyball tournament. In athletics, Prince and Robin Jot from Class XI; Karan from Class XII qualified for district-level competition. Managing Director of the school, Gurbinder Singh, along with Secretary Rajbir Kaur and Principal Sapna Chadha, congratulated the participants.
