Jalandhar: The NSS unit of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar Club, under the direction of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, New Delhi, organised a Swachhta Hi Sewa-Cleanliness Camp on NSS Foundation Day in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation and Humsafar Youth Club. Principal Dr Jaspal Singh initiated the campaign and motivated the volunteers to contribute their part in this national movement. He advised them to involve the community in these drives to increase their social impact. He added that cleanliness drives at a mass level are crucial to maintain the ecology. Chief Programme Officer Prof Satpal Singh informed that after taking the Swachhta pledge, volunteers collected plastic on the roadside from flyover to BSF chowk while plogging. During this drive, areas including GT road, Punjab State Electricity Board, police station, NYKS, college campus etc were cleaned. Later, a rally raising slogans on cleanliness was also conducted to make the passersby aware about the drive. NSS volunteers collected the plastic in bags and deposited it in the corporation ragpicker.
CBSE football tournament
Jalandhar: CBSE Cluster XVIII football tournament is being held at Sant Baba Bhag Singh International School, Khiala. On the fourth day of the tourney, semi-final matches were played in different categories for boys. Saffron Public School, Phagwara, and Scholar Public High School, Banga (Under-14), LK International School, Sultanpur Lodhi and Sainik Public School, Kapurthala (Under-17), Sant Baba Bhag Singh International School, Khiala and DPS Dohlron (Under-19) were the winners and will play their final matches. The finals will be played on Wednesday. Dr Amarjit Singh (Head of Physical Education Department of Sant Baba Bhag Singh University), Manju Chawla (Principal of Sant Baba Bhag Singh Institute of Nursing College), Sunil Vats (Legal Advisor of Sant Baba Bhag Singh Charitable Society), Ram Prakash Dhir (Legal Advisor of Sant Baba Bhag Singh Educational Complex) arrived to encourage the players.
Speech contest
Jalandhar: Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organised a ‘Speech contest’ in collaboration with Leaders & Solutions under the guidance of Principal Prof Ajay Sareen. The event started with the traditional lighting of the lamp by Principal Dr Sareen, PKS Bhardwaj of Buland Bharat Foundation, Chandigarh, Naunihal Singh of 17th generation of Sri Guru Gobind Singh and other dignitaries. The convener of the event, Mrudul Sondhi, welcomed the guests and audience. Twenty-six participants from different societies and educational institutions presented their views on various problems like environment, agriculture, road safety, women empowerment etc. Principal Ajay Sareen, in her address to the audience, inspired them to be a good leader in all walks of life. Jagjit Singh, former DEO, Ropar and Dr Ashok Sharma, encouraged the students to enhance their skills with hard work. The Fine Arts Department of the college conducted an exhibition of beautiful painting made by college students. In addition, a book exhibition was also held. The first five winners of the speech contest were awarded an amount of Rs 10,000 each. Three paintings by Ankita, Preeti and Yangchen also attracted the guests and were awarded mementoes.
Motivational session
Jalandhar: DAV College under the aegis of IQAC and IIC had the distinct pleasure of hosting an enlightening motivational session titled ‘Grind, Shine and Create Your Success Story’ in which renowned revelator Kanwarpreet from ‘Kanwar’s Revelations’ remained the key speaker. He is a media professional with over 14 years of experience and is currently cherishing his role of a holistic counsellor, tarot card reader and Vastu expert. The event aimed to inspire students to harness their potential and pursue their dreams with resilience and determination. During his presentation, he stated, “There is no shortcut to success and to achieve your bigger goals, you need to set small targets and fulfill those on a daily basis. A few takeaways like maintaining a gratitude diary, making a vision board and law of attraction will surely help you in creating a positive mindset.” Principal Dr Rajesh Kumar expressed his gratitude for DAV alumnus Kanwarpreet.
