Campus Notes: Orientation Programme organised

Jalandhar: The PG Department of Commerce and Business Administration of Lyallpur Khalsa College started its new session by organising an orientation programme for the students of first semester. Principal Dr Jaspal Singh said the purpose of college education was not only academic excellence, but personal and all-round development of the student. He asked the students to make full use of it. A cultural programme, including folk song and dance performances, was organised by the senior students of the department to welcome the juniors. After this, the deans and in-charges of various departments provided information about the college, events and function of different clubs and societies. Dr Rashpal Singh Sandhu, Head Department of Commerce, advised the students to set individual and team goals and make a road map to achieve them.

Millet Cooking workshop 

Phagwara: School of Hospitality and School of Allied Healthcare Sciences, GNA University, celebrated National Nutrition Week for promoting healthier and more sustainable eating practices. The event began with a guest lecture on “Energy drinks: Potion of illusion” delivered by Monica Malik, a distinguished nutrition coach. She discussed the deceptive marketing strategies used by energy drink companies and revealed the potential health risks associated with their consumption. “Fireless Millet Magic” workshop was led by Chef Saurabh Khurana, Assistant Professor from Chandigarh University. Chef Khurana showcased how to prepare a variety of millet-based dishes without traditional cooking methods, including puffed bajra trail mix, millets salad, jowar pancake, millet brownie and ragi bread sandwich with cream cheese and cucumber. The workshop was particularly beneficial for students, introducing them to creative ways of incorporating healthy ingredients into their diets and promoting a balanced, sustainable approach to eating.

Financial Literacy Activity

Jalandhar: In an engaging and educational initiative, students of State Public School, Jalandhar Cantt, participated in a financial literacy activity designed to teach young learners about the essential processes of banking, including depositing and withdrawing money. The event aimed to introduce basic financial concepts in a practical and fun way. The students of Class V played the role of bank employees, while students from Classes III and IV visited the “bank” to deposit and withdraw money. This interactive setup gave the students an opportunity to experience a simulated banking environment, learn about the different banking counters and understand how transactions are carried out. In addition to learning about counters for deposits, withdrawals and customer service, students were also introduced on how an ATM machine works and the overall banking system. Principal Savina Bahl praised the learning experiences that will prepare these students for real-world situations.

Cleanliness Activity organised

Jalandhar: A cleanliness activity was organised for the UKG class of CJS Public School. Students arranged their books, notebooks and desks in a proper manner. They were also told about the six steps of hands wash. Chairperson Neena Mittal and Principal Dr Ravi Suta were also present. They told them about cleanliness and motivated them to keep their classrooms as well as their surroundings clean.

KVS National Sports Meet

Jalandhar: On the second day of the 53rd KVS National Sports Meet Phase I, players from different Kendriya Vidyalayas from 25 regions participated. League matches of handball (boys) U-14, U-17 and matches of boxing (boys) U-14, U-17 and U-19 were organised. In the first match of under-14 handball, Dehradun defeated Bhubaneswar by 21-1. In other matches, Patna defeated Lucknow by 27-17, Delhi defeated Jaipur 13-5, and Agra defeated Gurugram in their league match by 20-5. In another group Mumbai defeated Ernakulam by 19-5, and Hyderabad beat Bengaluru by 32-4. The knock-out rounds of boxing were equally exciting and tough competition was witnessed. PC Tiwari, Assistant Commissioner, Chandigarh Division, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, visited the venue to monitor the arrangements and ensure smooth conduct of the programme. Karambir Singh, Principal Pathankot, took stock of the smooth arrangements and activities of the games.

Fun Games for students

Jalandhar: The IT Forum of PG Department of Computer Science, Apeejay College of Fine Arts, organised fun management games for its students. Principal Dr Neerja Dhingra said the aim was not to limit the children to classroom teaching, but to encourage them to participate in other activities. In the fun and management games — Fastest Thought, Bursting the Balloons, Caterpillar Race, Tie Your Eyes Race and Musical Chairs were organised. The prizes were awarded to the students participating in these games. In Fastest Thought, Srishati Gupta and Sushobhan Behal won the first prize, Kawalnoor Kaur and Harshdeep Kaur won the second prize.
