Jalandhar: Van Mahotsav was organised at St Soldier College (Co-ed) by the NSS department and the Eco Club. All the students of the college planted trees and took responsibility for its care, pledging to nurture it. Under the direction of college director Dr Veena Dada, groups of volunteers and members of the Eco Club were formed for the event. They were instructed to take care of the trees and plants throughout the year. The students were also inspired to plant new saplings to help make the environment pollution-free. College Principal Dr Manjeet Kaur informed the students about the importance of trees and plants and planted a tree herself. All the students and teachers of the college were present. Group Chairman Anil Chopra and vice chairperson Sangeeta Chopra appreciated students and staff members for the initiative and encouraged them to take part in these activities.

The Speaking Competition

Ivy World Play School, Civil Lines, organised ‘Acquaint yourself —- The speaking competition’ under the guidance of the school management, Principal Sanjeev Chauhan and Headmistress Shefali Sharma. The speaking competition centred around the theme, “All about me”, and provided a platform for students of Kindergarten to express their thoughts, feelings and experiences through short speeches. Children shared unique stories about their interests, families, favourite activities and what makes them special, highlighting the diverse personalities within the community. The enthusiastic participation of Ivyians was appreciated by the school management.

Workshop for teachers

Under the guidance of the Administrator Dimple Malhotra, Eklavya School organised a workshop for teachers to make the teaching and learning process more effective. Resource person Vivek Kumar explained about the teaching method for the betterment of students. The educators took part in all the activities with enthusiasm. Chairperson JK Gupta and Director Seema Handa said these kinds of workshops are praiseworthy. Vivek said that Xseed Education is a Singapore-based education company. He explained about the benefits of Xseed app for the teachers as well as students. Educators took part in different activities. They recited the rhyme “The blue kite”. A newspaper tower was made by the teachers and a skit was also staged based on different characters. Principal Komal Arora was happy to see the educators enjoying the activities.

Declamation contest

Under the guidance of Principal Dr Ravi Suta, an Inter-House English Declamation Contest was organised at CJS Public School for the students of Class VI on the topic: Plant a Tree, Make Our Earth Risk-Free. Students took part in the event with zeal. Everyone was well prepared and spoke confidently with expressions and excellent diction. Students were made to present their views within the given time limit. The first position went to Mayra Sharma. Second position was bagged by Raavi Gill and third by Gursimran Kaur. Chairperson Neena Mittal and Principal Dr Ravi lauded the participants and awarded certificates to the winners. She also motivated the students by saying that trees are of great importance to environment and human well-being. The principal also motivated students to be sincere and diligent in academics and activities to achieve success in all spheres of life.

Annual Prize distribution function

Amritsar: DAV Public School, Lawrence Road, Amritsar, held its annual prize distribution on July 14 to honour the students who excelled in the All India Senior Secondary School Examination 2023-2024 and the All India Secondary School Examination 2023-2024. On the occasion, the chief guest was Dr Punam Suri, president of the DAV, accompanied by VK Chopra (Director Public Schools), Dr Neelam Kamra (Regional Officer, Punjab Zone A), Dr Pushpinder Walia (manager of the school) and Ashok Arora, senior LMC member. Dr Pallavi Sethi, principal of the school, presented the annual report of the school highlighting the splendid achievements of the school in academics, sports and other co-curricular activities. Ninety-four students of Class XII and 122 students of Class X securing 90 per cent and above were awarded trophies and certificates.

Students excel in Science Olympiad

Students of Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School, Chabhal, have shown excellent performance in the Olympiad exam of various subjects organised by the Science Olympiad Foundation, New Delhi. Students got 10 certificates of zonal excellence in computer and 24 certificates of zonal excellence in social science. Students have also got gift vouchers of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000. Eight students got zonal bronze medal in social science. Sargunpreet Singh, a student of Class X, got zonal level bronze medal and a cheque for Rs 500 in the computer Olympiad exam. Ishmeet Kaur Sidhu, a student of Class V, got zonal silver medal and a cheque for Rs 1,250 in the social science Olympiad exam. Members in-charge and principal Anureet Bawa also appreciated and congratulated the students by giving them cash vouchers and medals.

Plantation drive

Under the initiative ‘Ek Paudha Maa Ke Naam’, a plantation drive was launched at Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology, Ranjit Avenue. Around 90 different saplings, including gulmohar, amaltas, neem, fig, aloo, mango, tulsi, etc, were planted on the occasion in collaboration with college director Dr Manju Bala. The college director said in the present circumstances, the underground water level is going down and climatic conditions are deteriorating, so planting trees is the only viable solution. She said it is our duty to contribute towards saving biodiversity and the earth through such tree plantation campaigns.
