Apeejay College of Fine Arts celebrated National Youth Day. Principal Neerja Dhingra said that Swami Vivekananda was indeed an ideal personality for the youngsters. He had always considered youth power as the most significant for nation building and universal brotherhood. He was a personality who had a vision for a new modern India. Vishavbandhu from the department of history presented a powerpoint presentation on ‘A Prophet of harmony and political synthesis’ in which he talked of his simple life style and high thinking. He also shared with the gathering Swami Vivekananda’s teachings as – ‘Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached’, ‘Whatever you think, you will be’, ‘Be a hero, say I have no fear’ etc. The students of department of applied art— Parmeet Kaur and Harshita Bhalla — BFA (Semester-VII), Riya Maggo and Tarunnum— BFA (Semester-III), Jhanvi— BFA (Semester-I), and Shreya — MFA made digital and handmade posters on the inspiring sayings of Swami Vivekananda. Ms Amandeep Kaur from department of fine arts also presented the posters of her students — Abhinandan, Gagandeep Kaur, Amandeep Kaur, Priyanshi, Chanjeet Singh and Twinkle. Himanshi Gupta and Anurag from department of journalism also shared their views on the occasion and a poem was recited by Harleen Singh of BA (Semester-III). Dr Anjana from the department of Hindi presented her views on significance given to women and being treated as the highest epitome of strength by Swami Vivekananda and Lovepreet Kaur from the department of Punjabi recited a self-composed poem ‘Nirol Brahmand’. Rashmi from the department of philosophy did the anchoring of the entire event.

Eklavya School Jalandhar celebrated National Youth Day with great enthusiasm and gusto. The main objective of the day was to promote rational thinking among the youth, believed to be the future of the country. It expected of the youth to rise to the occasion, fight for the right and channel their inner energies, just like Swami Vivekananda would have. The school educators conducted poster making competition for primary students in which students participated with great zeal. Essay writing competitions was also organised for all students of middle and senior school. JK Gupta, school chairman, inspired the students to instill such values and qualities which would help in building a New India.

Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology celebrated National Youth Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of the great Indian youth icon and social reformer, Swami Vivekananda, whose philosophy and ideals have the potential to imbibe and transmit new energy and positivity in the budding minds. The institution organised a webinar on ‘Ideas and teachings of Swami Vivekananda ‘. Prof Chander Shekhar, chairman BOG, NIT Hamirpur, was the chief guest of the event. Dr Nagesh Thakur from HP University was the guest of honour. The event commenced with Prof LK Awasthi’s address that highlighted the contribution of Swami Vivekananda in the creation of modern India and his strong influence on Indian youth. Prof Awasthi said, “We should take a vow to understand and adopt the path shown by Swami Vivekananda.” Prof Chander Shekhar also traced the history and invaluable contribution of Swami Vivekananda in awakening Indian youth and advised students to take inspiration from his ideals and philosophy. Dr Nagesh Thakur guided the young trailblazers to follow the path of Swami Vivekananda as he believed in the power of youth towards the inclusive growth of our nation and world at large. The institute also witnessed huge participation in the debate competition organised by the Literary and Debating Club on the topics pertaining to ideas and teachings of the great icon of Indian youth. The students actively participated in the competition. Prof Anish Sachdeva, dean, students welfare along with Dr Jaspreet Rajput, Dr Shyamkiran Kaur, Dr Gyan Prakash and Dr Samayveer Singh coordinated the events. Dean faculty welfare prof RK Garg, registrar Dr SK Mishra and faculty members also graced the events with their presence.

MGN College of Education

The Red Ribbon Club and NSS unit of MGN College of Education celebrated National Youth Day on the theme ‘Yuva-Utsah Naye Bharat Ka’, to seek enthusiastic contribution of youth in the national development. On this day, Jasbir Kaur with her poems evoked youth to stand against the evils and to become an agent to bring social change. Vidhi with her video threw light on the life of Swami Vivekananda and appealed the youth to follow his footsteps. At the end of the event, a song ‘Mann Ki Taqat’ was played to fill the zeal in the hearts of youth to stand for their nation. An online workshop on ‘Yoga and its role in physical and mental wellbeing’ was also held. Resource person, Kamal Aggarwal, president of the Bhartiya Yog Organisation, demonstrated different yoga poses like Balasana, Uttanasana, Shavasana, Sethubandhasana etc. which help people to cultivate mindfulness, develop greater awareness and improve their ability to focus on what is at hand. Principal Neelu Jhanji recalled Swami Vivekananda played a major role in reviving India’s image as a land of spirituality and his life motivated the youth to an extent that they started voicing the changes they desired and ultimately accomplish them. She also appealed to learn the art of practicing yoga which brought together physical and mental disciplines to achieve a peaceful body and mind. These events were coordinated by Dr Seema Rani, Dr Kiran Walia, Geetanjali Mittu and Gaganpreet Kaur. The event was hosted by Ramneet Kaur. tns
