Car on wrong side hits bike, kills rider near Banga

One motorcyclist was killed in an accident near Behram on the Phagwara–Banga road on late Thursday evening when a speeding car hit his motorcycle near the Khalwara turn on the slip road adjoining the highway.

The deceased was identified as Namdeep Singh (28), a resident of Jandiali village. According to police sources, he was going towards his village on a motorcycle (PB-78-B-1735), while his father Makhan Ram and sister-in-law Sarbjit Kaur, followed behind on another motorcycle.

As they reached the Khalwara turn, a car (PB-09-P-5179) allegedly came from the opposite direction at a high speed on the wrong side of the slip road, colliding head-on with Namdeep’s motorcycle. He suffered severe head and facial injuries and died on the spot.

The car driver was later identified as Chandan Soj, a resident of Ghumman village near Behram. The police have registered a case against him under Sections 304-A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving), and 427 (mischief causing damage to property) of the Indian Penal Code. The vehicle involved in the accident has been impounded, police said.

The body was sent for post-mortem at the Banga Civil Hospital and later handed over to the family for last rites.
