There seems to be no end to issuing challans and filing FIRs against those holding big weddings in the city. It means people are still not following the Covid rules and are breaking the protocols by inviting hundreds of guests to their weddings. One such case happened in Banga, Nawanshahr, on Wednesday night.
The Banga police registered cases against four persons, including the manager of the palace and the father of the groom. They had not taken any prior permission from the administration to hold the wedding.
According to the rules, a gathering of more than 20 persons in a wedding function will not be allowed, but at the palace in Banga, nearly 100 guests were present.
Cases were registered under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), Section 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) of the IPC and the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, against them.
The Banga SHO said many such incidents happened in the district where people indulged in holding big weddings. “Action is being taken against the violators on a regular basis,” he said.
Even as cases are on the rise, people are not avoiding big, fatty weddings in which they invite a large crowd of friends. This habit is leading to an increase in the cases, a police official said.
