Cash stolen from golak at Jalandhar gurdwara

Jalandhar, January 12

A thief struck at a gurdwara on the Phillaur-Nurmahal road on the intervening night of January 11 and 12 here and decamped with money from the golak and a gas cylinder.

The suspect entered the gurdwara by making a hole in its rear wall around midnight. In the CCTV footage, which went viral on social media, the suspect can be seen stealing money from the golak and walking away with a cylinder.

The gurdwara authorities said when granthi reached the gurdwara in the morning, he saw the premises ransacked. He found the money from golak and a gas cylinder missing.

The authorities said the suspect also fiddled with the place of worship and saroops of the ‘Gutka Sahib’ were found scattered on the premises.

After getting information, the police reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the matter.

Phillaur SHO Neeraj Kumar said: “The suspect entered the gurdwara by making a hole in its rear wall. He stole money from the goal and a gas cylinder. Since the suspect was wearing a mask, we are trying to identify him. We are scrutinising footage of CCTV cameras to get clue about him.”

The police registered a case against the suspect under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC.
