The Diocese of Jullundur on Monday condoled the demise of Pope Francis, remembering him for spending his entire life in the service of God and humanity.

Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese, Bishop Agnelo Gracias issued a statement that read, "Pope Francis will be remembered especially for his initiatives in favour of the poor and maginalised, his commitment to dialogue with all human beings and his efforts for world peace."

All schools falling under the Diocese have been closed on Tuesday as a mark of respect. "We have asked all our institutions to keep a portrait of the Pope in a prominent place so that the faithful can pray for him. We will pray for the Pope, especially in the next nine days. Once the date of the funeral is announced, the Diocese will hold a special Memorial Mass to pray for the repose of his soul. May God grant him eternal rest and joy!" said Bishop Agnelo in his message to the community.

A message by Sister Archana from St Joseph's Convent School too paid her tributes, "Pope Francis was a beacon of hope, compassion, and selfless service to the world. His unwavering commitment to spreading love, unity, and peace transcended borders and touched countless lives, leaving behind a legacy that will inspire generations to come. Remember his teachings, strive to be kind to one another, and hold onto the values he championed throughout his life. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may we find strength in the values of compassion and faith that he dedicated his life to nurturing."
