Central team reviews rainwater harvesting efforts in Nawanshahr

A Central team on Monday inspected various projects underway across Nawanshahr district as part of the "Catch the Rain" programme, aimed at rainwater conservation and efficient management.

The two-member team comprised Sureshwar Singh Bonal, Director of the Heavy Industry Department and Nodal Officer of the Jal Shakti Programme, and Vikram Garg, Deputy Director of the Central Water Commission.

Upon their arrival at the District Administrative Complex here, they held a detailed meeting with officials from all departments concerned.

The team also met Deputy Commissioner Ankurjit Singh. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Avneet Kaur briefed the team on the activities of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan.

She highlighted the construction of 18 check dams and 19 water recharging structures for rainwater conservation. Additionally, she reported that 227 ponds had been cleaned and made recharging-ready, and four lakh saplings had been planted across the district.
