The office of the District Language Officer, Kapurthala, in collaboration with Lyallpur Khalsa College, Urban Estate, Kapurthala, organised the public launch of Dr Asa Singh Ghumman’s translated book “Kahani Bin Sarnaviyon” — a collection of 13 stories by Anton Chekhov — at the college premises.
The event was graced by Mota Singh Sarai, President of the European Association (UK), as the chief guest and S Lakhwinder Singh Johal as the guest of honour. The function was presided over by Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, principal of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Urban Estate, Kapurthala. Dr Ram Murti Ghai introduced the book to the audience, while stage coordination was effectively handled by Shri Shahbaz Khan.
During the event, Dr Asa Singh Ghumman read aloud one of the stories from his newly translated collection, offering the audience a glimpse into Chekhov’s world as rendered in Punjabi.
Extending her congratulations, Jaspreet Kaur, District Language Officer, Kapurthala, praised Dr Ghumman’s contribution to Punjabi literature, noting that his books have become the preferred reading of the younger generation. On the occasion, the office of the District Language Officer also organised a book exhibition showcasing publications by Bhasha Punjab, attracting keen interest from visiting guests and college students, many of whom purchased books from the display.
