Chemist booked for selling hand sanitisers at high price

Nakodar, March 22

The Nurmahal police on Saturday booked a chemist on the charge of selling sanitisers at more than the prescribed rates.

ASP Nakodar Vatsla Gupta said the accused had been identified as Rajiv Kumar Dhand, a resident of Mohalla Ohriyan and owner of Dhand Medial Store on Nakodar road, Nurmahal.

Jalandhar Assistant Food and Civil Supply officer Munish Kumar complained to the police that the accused was selling sanitisers at more price that the prescribed rates.

She said a case under Section 7 of the Essentials Commodities Act 1955 had been registered against the accused.

Meanwhile, Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma has ordered a crackdown on hoarders and shopkeepers for selling the essentials higher than maximum retail price (MRP). “No hoarding or selling of goods at high prices would be allowed in the district,” Sharma said.

Mass gathering: Marriage palace manager arrested

Nurmahal: The Nurmahal police on Saturday arrested the manager of a marriage palace and booked another manager on the charge of defying the restriction simposed on mass gathering after the coronavirus outbreak.

ASP Nakodar Vatsla Gupta said the arrested accused manger had been identified as Gurdas, a resident of Cheema Palace, Cheema Khurd village. The booked manger had been identified as Avtar Singh of Khehra village under Phillaur police station and presently living in Uppal Jagir village.

She said the police had received information that marriage programmes were organised in these palaces defying the restrictions on gathering of more than 20 people and thus violated the government order.

She said a case under Section 188 of the IPC had been registered against the accused and raids were being conducted to nab the absconding manager.
