‘Chi Chi’: AI-powered robotic dog takes command, stuns students

Students of the Department of Applied Science at Lyallpur Khalsa College Technical Campus (LKCTC) were surprised during a recent technical session when a robotic dog named 'Chi Chi' entered the auditorium.

The AI-controlled dog greeted the students with "Hello" and "Good morning." It moved gracefully on its four legs, maintaining balance as it climbed the stage. 'Chi Chi' delivered a short talk, responded to every command given by Gourav Gupta, Founder and CEO of Techcadd AI Company and resource person of the day and answered all student queries, leaving the audience amazed.

Gupta conducted a technical session on Artificial Intelligence, aimed at providing students with a comprehensive understanding of AI technologies. The session covered an overview of AI and its applications, how AI systems are programmed, real-world uses of AI and how robotic devices are developed and modified.

The resource person helped students understand AI's role in interpreting visual data from cameras and sensors, facial recognition, object detection, chat bots and autonomous vehicles. He demonstrated the robotic dog 'Chi Chi' and explained how AI robots employ advanced coding techniques like reinforcement learning to perceive and interact in real time. He also highlighted AI's applications in healthcare and personalised learning and discussed its role in daily life through smartphones, smart homes, and online services. The session also addressed AI ethics, focusing on privacy, bias, and job impacts.

Dr Pawanpreet Kaur, HoD of the Applied Science department, said the students thoroughly enjoyed the session and asked many questions about the making, programming and potential future uses of AI. Sukhbir Singh Chatha, Director of Academic Affairs at KCL Group of Institutes, and Dr R.S. Deol, Director of LKCTC, praised the organising committee's efforts. They encouraged faculty to maintain their enthusiasm for hosting such events that bridge the gap between industry and academia.
