Jalandhar lad’s film to premiere in Toronto International Film Festival in Sept

Vaibhav Sharma, a Jalandhar native, who relocated to Canada last year, is set to make his mark on the international film scene. He will appear in the movie “I Am No Queen,” which has been selected for the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and is slated for its official premiere on September 8 at the festival.

The film is based on the real-life experiences of immigrant students. It follows the story of Rani, an international student, who faces challenges and hardships in a new country. Vaibhav plays Harry, the film’s antagonist, whose action impacts Rani's journey.

Reflecting on the role, Vaibhav expressed gratitude for being part of a project that resonates deeply with the experiences of international students. “This movie echoes the heartbeats of students who face the challenges of being resettled in a new place. Rani’s story reflects the lives of many international students — filled with hope, dreams and the harsh realities of life abroad,” he said.

Before his role in ‘I Am No Queen’, Vaibhav shared the screen with Bollywood stars Shahid Kapoor, Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapoor in the film ‘Jersey’. His filmography also includes appearances in ‘The Zoya Factor’, ‘Operation Romeo’ and ‘Sanak’ along with several web series, TV commercials and music videos.

Vaibhav’s journey into film industry began during his college years in Jalandhar, where he developed an interest in drama and modelling. In 2016, he moved to Mumbai to pursue his passion. “To survive in the industry, I even worked at a call centre,” Vaibhav recalled. “But I was fortunate to land a modeling gig within a month, followed by advertisements”, he added.

After spending seven years in Mumbai, honing his craft, Vaibhav moved to Canada in 2023 to further develop his skills and career. He said his role in ‘I Am No Queen’ represents another significant milestone, with the film’s upcoming premiere at TIFF expected to further elevate his career.
