City pays tribute to Netaji

The National Martyrs’ Memorial Committee hosted an event to commemorate the 128th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at BD Arya Girls’ College here on Thursday.

The programme was aimed at paying tribute to one of the country’s most iconic freedom fighters. The event was attended by Brig SK Saul, Station Commander, Jalandhar Cantt. Guests of honour included Puneet Shukla, civil member of Jalandhar Cantt, and Dr Rajan Sharma, an eminent political scientist, along with Colonel Manmohan Singh, Savitiri Sharma, Dr Ravi Sharma and officiating Principal Mini Verma.

Members of the Indian National Army (INA) families graced the occasion. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr Anoop Vats, president of the National Martyrs’ Memorial Committee, highlighting the importance of preserving Netaji’s ideals of nationalism and selfless service.

Inspirational blessings were shared by Dr Rajan Sharma, Puneet Shukla and Savitri Sharma, who spoke on Netaji’s tireless efforts to secure India’s freedom and his formation of the INA.

Highlight of the event was the felicitation of INA families, who represented the legacy of bravery and sacrifice that inspired the nation. The prize winners of the poster-making and essay writing competitions were honoured. Students performed patriotic poems and speeches adding a poignant tribute to Netaji’s enduring spirit.

Brigadier Saul delivered an inspiring address, urging the youth to uphold Netaji’s ideals of nationalism and self-discipline. Officiating Principal Mini Verma proposed a vote of thanks with heartfelt words and emphasised the importance of instilling Netaji’s ideals of patriotism, courage and service in the younger generation. The stage was conducted by Gurbakshish Kaur.
