City’s govt school to celebrate ‘Dhiyan Di Lohri’ on January 4
For the 15th consecutive year “Dhiyan Di Lohri would be celebrated at the Government Primary School in Rurka Kalan. The event would be held on January 4.
The event was started by head teacher Buta Ram with an aim to motivate, celebrate and encourage young girls to do better in life. Last year, three girls were presented silver ornaments and two were given bicycles to help improve their lives. Twenty-one newborn girls would be given Lohri by the staff. This year, the school staff would also give watches to girls.
Buta Ram said he wanted people to understand the importance of gender equality.
