Jalandhar: The second Bhangra Gold Cup was organised at Lyallpur Khalsa College, with Bhangra teams from various districts participating. The event was graced by renowned folk singer and actor Sarabjit Cheema as the chief guest, with Ekjot Kaur as the special guest. Dr Suman Chopra, principal of the college, emphasised the significance of Bhangra as Punjab’s folk dance and the responsibility of Punjabis to promote it. Cheema praised the college’s efforts to promote Bhangra and thanked Balbir Kaur, president of the Governing Council. In the competition, Government Mahindra College, Patiala, secured first place, SECA Nawanshahr took second, and CT University Ludhiana and RIFAC Bhangra Academy Ludhiana shared third place. The winning teams were awarded Rs 1.25 lakh, Rs 71,000 and Rs 31,000, respectively. Surinder Kumar Chalotra, PA to Principal Prof Surabjit Singh and Prof. Simranjit Singh were honoured for their support in organising the event.

State-Level Athletics Meet

Jalandhar: The Punjab Technical Institution Sports organised a State-Level Athletic Meet at Government Polytechnic College, Batala. Abhishek Bhandari from Mehr Chand Polytechnic College won a gold medal in the 200-meter race, while Sahil Singh Pandey secured a silver medal in the 800-meter race, bringing pride to the college. Principal Dr Jagroop Singh and sports president Prof Kashmir Kumar congratulated and honoured the winning students. Deputy Sports Head Vikramjit Singh, Sports in-charge Durgesh Jandy and team in-charge Kulwinder Singh were also present at the event.

Apeejay celebrates Language Day

Jalandhar: The Literary and Dramatics Club of Apeejay Institute of Management and Engineering organised a poem recitation competition in celebration of International Mother Language Day. The event aimed to raise awareness on linguistic diversity. Students from BBA, BCA, BCom (H), BTech (CSE), MBA, and MCA participated enthusiastically. Dr Rajesh Bagga, Director, wished the participants well and congratulated the prize winners for their exceptional contributions. Dr Rajneesh Arya, Dean, School of Management, emphasised the role of one’s mother tongue in shaping the personality, stressing that proficiency in it builds confidence and expressiveness.

Maa Boli Punjabi Diwas

Jalandhar: Mayor World School celebrated Maa Boli Punjabi Diwas to promote a deeper understanding of the Punjabi language and culture. Students from Grades I and II participated in an interactive game to familiarise themselves with the Punjabi alphabet. Grades III to V students engaged in traditional Punjabi folk games, demonstrating physical agility and cultural connection. Meanwhile, students from Grades VI to VIII participated in a slogan writing activity, showcasing their artistic expressions.

Mother Language Day

Jalandhar: On International Mother Language Day, a special prayer meet was organised at The Gurukul School, where students raised awareness about the day’s significance through speeches and poetry recitations. Various activities were conducted in the classes to promote the Punjabi language, including a Punjabi book reading activity that helped students understand the importance of Punjabi literature. A poster-making activity also took place, with enthusiastic participation from all students. School Director Sushma Handa addressed the gathering, wishing every one a Happy International Mother Language Day, emphasising the importance of the Punjabi language in our culture and identity. Principal Radha Gakkhar highlighted how the day reminds us of the value of our mother tongue.
